I have just replaced by HDD 1.5Tb disk in a HPE-480 Tower with this Samsung SSD. I also purchased the SATA cables and disk tray convertor. The whole operations was so easy. I installed it into the tower into the 2nd bay. Installed the Software and cloned the System disk to the new SSD. Then switched on the SATA cables and hey presto the SSD was now my system disk. My motherboard did not accept SATA3 so it auto downgraded to SATA2, but it was not an issue. I took timings before and after the switch. Before the switch using my HDD from power on via Windows 7 logon screen and MS Outlook up and running it took 10.25 mins. After the switch and now using the SSD, the same process took 50 seconds. Its unbelievable. Everything runs in seconds. My PC is 4 years old and now it is running faster than when I first built it out of the box on day 1. My HDD is now a massive data disk, which I have partitioned for Windows Backups and Acronis Image backups. No other change to my tired PC could have had such a massive improvement impact. Imagine what it would have been like if the Motherboard had supported SATA3. Wow!

I purchased this to install as a boot drive and keep my original drive for storage. Note that this is the SSD only, you don't get any drive caddy, cables or screws to go with it, it's just the drive.

Opening the box you'll find the Samsung 850 Pro (which is really light), some pictorial instructions and a software CD. The migration and management software can be downloaded directly from Samsung's website for the most up to date versions.

There are two sets of instructions, one for a desktop installation and one for a laptop installation, and they are aimed at people looking to replace an existing drive, and not have this in addition to their existing drive.

Setup was very simple, it just takes a little time due to the cloning process. The instructions show the Samsung 850 Pro being plugged in via a USB adapter to migrate data, but if you plan on using the SSD in addition to your existing drive you can go ahead and install it into your PC/laptop right away.

In this case the Samsung 850 Pro was installed using a 2.5 to 3.5 caddy to fit it into a desktop, which happened to be in the 'frequently bought together' suggestion from Amazon and was ideal for the job.

Once connected (either via a USB caddy or having been installed into your desktop) you fire up the Samsung Migration software which will automatically detect the size of the source drive and target drive and let you know if there is enough space.

If your source drive contains too much data you'll need to either exclude or delete some of it, the perfect opportunity for a little spring cleaning. Remove the software and games you no longer play, transfer music, videos and photos to an external drive, and very quickly you'll have cleared a lot of space.

I had a process running on a PC to convert a very large amount of data to a SQL server database. Processing took a total of 28 hours on a good conventional drive. Replaced with one of these and the time fell to 7 hours. This is a fantastic drive.

Very fast drive but unfortunately it died within a month, with Windows 8.1 seeing it as an unstable "unformatted" 128 GB drive! Considering the manufacturer gives a 10 year limited warranty, I've probably just been unlucky. Drive to be returned for a full refund and I'll spend some time deciding if I should re-purchase.

I havent put this in my pc yet, but some comments.
The box was very small and flat, previous samsung ssd's came with accessories, I own 2 830s and one came with a usb to ssd cable (good for migrating or general external use) and the other came with a 3.5inch plate. This drive comes with neither. Not a big deal for me as I can use the cable from the 830 to migrate data but its worth putting here to warn others.
There is nothing wrong with my 2 128gig 830s, I got one in my laptop (excellent upgrade from 5400rpm hdd) and one in this pc, but I decided I want a bigger ssd so I can put games on it as well, so I got this one which should have great endurance due to the new type of v-nand as well as great performance. When I install it and have ran tests etc. will update this review.

--edit--

Am now using the ssd and it works excellent. Probably the best SATA SSD on the market.

Added this into a 21.5 " Apple Imac, WOW, what a difference.
Although fitting as a second drive in an Imac is a tad harder than a normal PC it absolutely transformed the speed of the machine, i cant recommend this enough, worth every penny

I purchased this to upgrade my 2011 Mac Mini from it's factory 512 GB 5400 rpm hdd. Having just upgraded my MacBook Air with a larger SSD, I was certain this would be a straightforward affair using Carbon Copy Cloner. However, this was a completely different experience. My MacMini wouldn't recognise this either directly or in the disc utility whilst using an external USB SATA adaptor to perform the 'clone' function. I tried the SSD via the same adaptor on my MacBook Air and it was recognised immediately and I reformatted/initialised it for the Mini. I then installed it into the Mini itself (a very simple process with quite a few very good YouTube videos to walk you through the process). I put the Mini into recovery mode and used Time Machine to create the new image on the SSD - this sounds more complicated than it is; if you have a current/recent Time Machine backup, it goes like clockwork. The SSD now works perfectly and is running at over 10x the read and write speeds of the original HDD. Programmes open extremely quickly and I do notice an improvement in the running speed of the Mini on Handbrake, Photoshop and Microsoft Office programmes. In all, despite the somewhat bumpy start to the installation (which had nothing to do with the Samsung Drive), I'm impressed beyond expectation.
