I bought this notebook because when I went away earlier this year for work and took my old laptop with me, I got really fed up with the weight and size of it. I didn't want a netbook because I wanted an internal DVD drive and so this seemed like the perfect option. I'd been using a Samsung R580 from work and was a bit worried that the keyboard on the Q330 would be as plasticky but fortunately it isn't. It's much more robust and I absolutely love the size of it. It's big enough to do all the things I need to do on the Internet, Word etc, but easier to move around. The sound is a bit tinny but then that seems to be the case on a lot of Samsungs, or so I've read. It's perfectly fine to listen to and with the headphones it's absolutely fine.

I've only had it for about six weeks but so far so good. I'd definitely recommend it.

Great little laptop. Fast and light with good battery life. Only niggles are the amount of bloatware which you have to remove and, because the optical drive forms part of the casing, you have to be careful not to pick up the laptop by that area while a disc is in. Otherwise all good. Recommended.

I have a feeling this laptop won't appeal to many, probably because it has no "killer features". The design is understated and professional with no fancy designs or flashy lights, and it doesn't claim to be the fastest/lightest/best at anything in particular.

But that's OK, because the Q330's killer feature is that it does everything well, which is a rare thing in modern laptops. How many notebooks get hot after just a little use, or have a fan that roars like a turbine? How many have mushy keyboards that flex when you're typing? How many simply aren't assembled properly (HP, I'm looking at you), or have stupid design choices such as speakers pointing at the table?

This Samsung suffers from none of the problems of modern laptops. It has a fast i3 processor but still runs very cool, with a fan that you'll only notice in a silent room (and if that's not enough, it has a SuperSilent mode which turns the fan off unless it's absolutely necessary). It has upwards-firing speakers, a sensible touchpad with proper buttons, and a crisp screen that isn't too glossy. Best of all, the keyboard is near-perfect. It's chiclet-style, but easily the best I've ever used. Build quality is also great - despite being all plastic it's solidly constructed with good screen hinges. At less than 2kg it's a great weight, and looks even thinner than it actually is.

There are some downsides. Battery life seems above-average but falls short of the advertised time, which I think is referring to a larger capacity battery than the included one. And although the 3GB RAM is fine for now, I might have some trouble upgrading in the future because I can't get the panels off the base - they're screwed on too tightly. (UPDATE: My mistake here - there's only one screw to remove to access the RAM.

I purchased this laptop because it was the most compact laptop still retaining an optical drive I could find, It was a little larger than I had originally wanted but it still fits snugly into my case for travelling and in retrospect the slightly larger keyboard is very comfortable to use ...
The only real downside is the huge amount of unnecessary and in most cases pointless items of software preloaded onto it, way beyond the amount usually found on a new machine, I actually became quite frustrated with the time taken uninstalling it all before use, one particular program required manual changes to the system registry to completely remove! ... It would be nice if manufacturers could deliver machines free of any software and let the user decide what to install.
Shame about the software, this laptop would have received five stars if it had been delivered without it ... It's a great bit of kit in all other ways
