Fantastic little machine, 13 Jun 2009
This review is from: Samsung N120 10.1-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Windows XP Home, White) (Electronics)
What a great little laptop!I was a bit dubious about getting one of these netbooks. And there are so many models and makes and information that it is all a bit confusing!
I was worried that the intel atom wouldn't be a good substitute for "proper" processors, and worried that the screen would be too glossy for my fieldwork. However, I have now used this for a couple of weeks in harsh field conditions in the tropics, and find it a complete delight. It runs all the software I need it to (I haven't tried GIS yet but I hear it can be done),and with a 2GB RAM upgrade it runs faster and better than my laptop which had same RAM.The screen is fine even in bright conditions-you can see reflections in it on a bright day outside but you can easily see through them. The keys are fantastic as I do a lot of data-entry and report writing-so to have full size keys that type so easily is great.Huge harddrive so I don't need to worry about transferring all my fieldphotos every few weeks.ANd room to spare for films and music. And the battery life!!!It beats carrying around the machine work provides me with-a powerful hp-with 2 additional batteries.Just the one battery outlasts all those 3.Very light and it seems pretty durable, although I have got a decent swordfish case to protect it.
All in all,I thought i was taking a risk with this and I was worried it might not be worth it,but it has been the best purchase I've made, and made life so much lighter and easier.Occasionally the graphics software doesn't shutdown properly when you turn off computer, but it doesn't cause any problems.Otherwise perfect.

The only computer you'll need!, 18 Aug 2009
This review is from: Samsung N120 10.1-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Windows XP Home, White) (Electronics)
I like many of you was left wondering which Samsung netbook to purchase - The old faithful NC10, the newer NC20, The Stylish N110, The multimedia N120 or the New N320. Samsung have certainly not made it easy for its potential customers to tell these laptops apart and even the professional reviewers have got it wrong!
I hedged my bets and purchased the N120 after hours of debating (and googling for info). Why? Well 2 things sold it over the N110 for me - the far superior sound quality (not the loudest but definitely the richest) and the usable keyboard.
I have had my N120 for just about a week now and can say that I am very happy with my purchase - this little computer weighs next to nothing, has excellent battery life (usually 8hrs) and does everything I want and need (thanks to the ease of obtaining windows xp software vs. linux). I have installed the usual antivirus and registry cleaner software to keep it running smooth as well as more "typical" software such as Itunes (however I do recommend looking at shareware alternatives with smaller footprints for most other software such as office, browsers, adobe etc...).
My only gripe would be with the RAM; 1GB does seem to limit the system to the amount of windows you can have open at a time without coming to a near standstill, but it is easily rectified with an easy to install 2GB card (purchase with the optical drive and netbook for package bargains).
I really recommend buying an optical drive - as we are not quite in a completely DVD or CD free zone (yet) as well as getting yourself a memory stick and large capacity SD card for back ups.
I must confess that Samsung has always been synonymous with quality to me and their N120 netbook does not tarnish this excellent reputation. I use my N120 as my only computer (and bedroom sound system) and can say that I feel laptops/notebooks best beware; with the package option available (netbook/RAM/Optical) there is nothing to stop this type of portable "all day" computer from stealing the crown.
I look forward to throwing this little gem in my bag at uni and fishing it out between lectures and in the library to do homework, or look at facebook, then carrying on with my day knowing that if I need or want it it will be there for me.
All in all FANTASTIC VALUE!!!!!

Excellent netbook!, 11 Jun 2009
This review is from: Samsung N120 10.1-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Windows XP Home, White) (Electronics)
This is a fantastic product. Really great features - keyboard is excellent, screen is v. good, battery life is amazing - about 8 hours with average browsing etc. I did a lot of research and the Samsung N range came out on top. I thought I'd go for the new N120 and I have to say I'm delighted. The white model looks great! Highly recommended!
