A very basic book 11 Jan 2008
By Mole TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you really want to learn how to use the product, then this book will not be of any real use.

It covers a few basics such as logging on, and indicates a few other simple functions within the system. However, there is simply not enough depth to make it of any value. You could certainly learn everything in the book in a 24 hour period; possibly even a 24 minute period. The software product is simply too big to cover in adequate depth in a single book - and this one fails to do much more than cover some issues that are in the SAP help files.

However, the limited amount of information is well presented - it might be of some assistance to a complete novice to help cover some of the basic knowledge required to get them started. But they will very quickly need to look for more information than is covered by this book.

It does not teach 23 Mar 2007
Format:Paperback
If you are SAP user, this book will not help you at all. I bought the book and hoped to have some coherent descriptions on finance and controlling modules of SAP. Instead the book fails to give a good account of what SAP does or does not.

SAP is a mighty expensive system and it takes many staff to do basic things that can be done easily on any accounting software package. In my company, there is nobody with a good understanding of what SAP does or does not.

This book is a selling pitch for two consultants who work for SAP. The book is written in a very unfinancial way and it is a bore to read.

Very useful. 14 July 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really don't think the last couple of reviewers knew what they wanted, when they bought this book.

I've just completed the first SAP course "SAPTEC", and found this a great reference.

It gives you info on most of the basic transaction codes that were covered in SAPTEC, and even gives steps on how to install the trial version of Netweaver.
Although it doesn't mention the few little pitfalls you will get when trying to do so.

For a start, Netweaver 7.01 ABAP trial version, requires a lower java jre then most people will have installed.
Also it states that you need the JRE, but you will actually need to install the JDK 1.5
Apart from this, and adding the relevant path variables in, you can get the trial version running fairly easily.

Once this is installed, you have free reign to play with and familiarise yourself with the basic transactions shown in the book.

Basic things that are missing, are things like, howto set up roles with a new user.
This is useful if you have installed the trial version.

The sections on specific SAP modules I can't comment on, but as an introduction and a reference following the first course, it's pretty good.

Well worth the money!
