I just received this little book and is a stunner! It's so little, about 5 x 7 and has only 32 pages but considering the gorgeous color pics and the fact that every word is in both Welsh and English, it's jam-packed.
I have included in Images above several pics of the samplers and evidence that it gives equal time to English and Scottish text. Several of the samplers are in English but I'm showing ones in Welsh. My husband's family is in England and several relatives lived in Wales for a while. I really wish I knew how to pronounce the words...by studying the parallel titles and paragraphs, you could teach yourself to be bilingual! I counted and all but 3 pages have color close-up photos of samplers and couple portraits. The cover includes a photo of an "eisteddfod" or prize-money purse which was handed out at church ("eisteddfodau") festivities. This one is from 1908 and is in red velvet with cross stitch sewn on.
I love samplers, have stitched several and own many books on the subject. This is now a highly prized addition to my library.
I was stunned when I searched Samperi Cymreig on Amazon and found another book of the same title. It's more expensive than this so I'll probably hold off on getting it (and at least until I've become bilingual):
Sampleri: Cymreig: Hanes, Technegau, Enghreifftiau (Welsh Edition)
