Book Description

15 Sep 2011
A daringly candid over-the-counter view by the owner of a unique boutique staycation . Robert Greenfield a former British fashion designer risks everything for a No Going Back adventure that turns his and Michael Bell s comfy city life upside down; as a dramatic new life beckons the budding hoteliers... After an awe-inspiring renovation of a rundown ancient house, the word quickly spreads and their books are FULL to overflowing. Anecdotes abound of the dreaded hotel inspector, and eye-popping Guests from Hell that will have you laughing and gasping at their blatant turgid audacity... A real life Boy s Own spirited derring-do... epic roller coaster ride that will have you crying out for a sequel with these two uber-stylish hosts, and their urbane hippy dog, Barnaby-Boo. Entertaining, and spellbinding; maybe you will be packing your bags and heading for the hauntingly scenic North Norfolk coast... About the Author

ROBERT GREENFIELD spent years coming to terms with a darkly tragic childhood to become an international fashion designer once dubbed: Britain s answer to the Italian Look by Men s Wear Magazine. He has lived in Florence, New York and Hong Kong... Robert is now a well-respected interior designer with many successful projects often featured in magazines and the press. In 2000, Robert and his partner, Michael left London to set-up a much-publicized boutique style B&B on the stunning North Norfolk coast. They also run unique holiday cottage-lets along this coastline. Robert is a keen environmentalist, passionate about animal welfare, a fitness freak, trend geek, and as he says, Design is my sensitivity . He is currently writing his next book...

5.0 out of 5 stars A rollercoaster ride 23 April 2012
Format:Paperback
I read Samphire Coast after meeting Robert at a signing, the book is written in a way that Robert's own personality shines through. It is a funny, soul searching and amazing story, but it isn't a story it is real fact. If you have worked with the public you will recognise the characters contained within, you meet them everywhere, the difference here is they were in Robert's home as guests. Roberts back history is amazing and interwoven into the narrative of building a special place and a business. A book about Norfolk by an incomer would normally say buyer beware if you love our county, it is okay tho' because Robert loves Norfolk too. I couldn't put it down once I started. Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Samphire Coast 3 April 2012
By Jayone
Format:Paperback
Samphire Coast is a most entertaining heartfelt rendition's of how hard work, self motivation, attention to detail and pure will will succeed in an industry that is fraut with highs and lows and alot of pitfalls along the way. From the Hotel inspector, to the diverse and various guests which range from the ones from hell to the ones that are now friends. This book enables you to live the life of establishing a new boutique B & B in the heart of rural North Norfolk. Robert, Mike and Barnaby Boo have a story that will have you laughing one moment to crying the next. The trials and tribulations they experience are all laid open for you to see. The book embraces your imagination and encourages you to feel that you are one of the family and that they are your friends. Having been luckily blessed with having the opportunity to meet Robert I can let you all know that he is one of the nicest, generous and most humblest of men. I am looking forward to book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Samphire Coast - Candid, funny and inspirational 20 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback
Samphire Coast is a rattling good read. From the graphic descriptions of his time as a fashion designer on the hip New York scene when in his twenties to finding, renovating and then running a luxurious boutique B and B on the North Norfolk coast Robert Greenfield's candour and enthusiasm bubble through every sentence. Neither he nor his partner Mike had any previous hotel experience but with hard work and originality they turn Holly Lodge into a successful, stylish and award-winning venue. Many who stay are lovely but far more interesting are those whose extraordinary behaviour is rib-ticklingly bizarre and sometimes downright wacky. This is a fast-paced, fun-packed, often racy, read of life behind the scenes of a top-class B and B set against a fascinating Norfolk background. In this debut work Robert Greenfield wears his heart on his sleeve and the book is all the better for it.
