About the Author

ROBERT GREENFIELD spent years coming to terms with a darkly tragic childhood to become an international fashion designer once dubbed: Britain s answer to the Italian Look by Men s Wear Magazine. He has lived in Florence, New York and Hong Kong... Robert is now a well-respected interior designer with many successful projects often featured in magazines and the press. In 2000, Robert and his partner, Michael left London to set-up a much-publicized boutique style B&B on the stunning North Norfolk coast. They also run unique holiday cottage-lets along this coastline. Robert is a keen environmentalist, passionate about animal welfare, a fitness freak, trend geek, and as he says, Design is my sensitivity . He is currently writing his next book...

Samphire Coast is a most entertaining heartfelt rendition's of how hard work, self motivation, attention to detail and pure will will succeed in an industry that is fraut with highs and lows and alot of pitfalls along the way. From the Hotel inspector, to the diverse and various guests which range from the ones from hell to the ones that are now friends. This book enables you to live the life of establishing a new boutique B & B in the heart of rural North Norfolk. Robert, Mike and Barnaby Boo have a story that will have you laughing one moment to crying the next. The trials and tribulations they experience are all laid open for you to see. The book embraces your imagination and encourages you to feel that you are one of the family and that they are your friends. Having been luckily blessed with having the opportunity to meet Robert I can let you all know that he is one of the nicest, generous and most humblest of men. I am looking forward to book 2.

Samphire Coast is a rattling good read. From the graphic descriptions of his time as a fashion designer on the hip New York scene when in his twenties to finding, renovating and then running a luxurious boutique B and B on the North Norfolk coast Robert Greenfield's candour and enthusiasm bubble through every sentence. Neither he nor his partner Mike had any previous hotel experience but with hard work and originality they turn Holly Lodge into a successful, stylish and award-winning venue. Many who stay are lovely but far more interesting are those whose extraordinary behaviour is rib-ticklingly bizarre and sometimes downright wacky. This is a fast-paced, fun-packed, often racy, read of life behind the scenes of a top-class B and B set against a fascinating Norfolk background. In this debut work Robert Greenfield wears his heart on his sleeve and the book is all the better for it.

Robert Greenfield writes an outstanding record of his rollercoaster life. You literally fall in love with Robert, Norfolk and Barnaby. By the end of the book you actually feel like Robert's friend. He opens up and lets you in to the risks people take in life. The fun you can have the troubles you can hit. The book is sending an encouraging message; if you work hard and stay motivated you really can succeed. The very worded beginning can be a little daunting but bare with it and you will not want to put the book down. The descriptions of Norfolk were spot on - and the description of Holly Lodge makes you weak at the knees, it sounded perfect.
If you want an interesting, exciting, inspirational read then Samphire Coast is the book for you.

I read Samphire Coast after meeting Robert at a signing, the book is written in a way that Robert's own personality shines through. It is a funny, soul searching and amazing story, but it isn't a story it is real fact. If you have worked with the public you will recognise the characters contained within, you meet them everywhere, the difference here is they were in Robert's home as guests. Roberts back history is amazing and interwoven into the narrative of building a special place and a business. A book about Norfolk by an incomer would normally say buyer beware if you love our county, it is okay tho' because Robert loves Norfolk too. I couldn't put it down once I started. Enjoy

I'm one of those people who likes to read books by new authors, Robert has a very unique style and his words quickly draw you in. The pace in the book is wonderful and really makes you want to turn the pages to see what comes next. I'm new to East Anglia, and the descriptions of the towns and the countryside really made me want to travel to Norfolk, right now - and right away! I loved the paragraphs about the photo shoot in the garden, it made me cringe and howl with laughter all at the same time. Well done on a fantastic first book. I shall be recommending this book to friends.

We purchased this novel when we visited Holkham Hall in Norfolk this summer. The author, Robert Greenfield was there, selling signed copies. We thought the book looked intriguing, as this was someone that had had a difficult background, now lived in Norfolk and had made a real success of his life.

Now, I have just finished reading this book and it was, indeed, a great read. It describes how this gay couple, Robert and Mike decided to set up and run a very successful Bed & Breakfast place in Thursford, Norfolk. Greenfied explains the risks they took, leaving their home and their way of life in London, and the big success they made of their B&B place. So much so, that they won various awards, and in particular, won the award for the best B&B in Britain in 2005! They worked very, very hard and always went the extra mile. They were incredibly hard-working and enthusiastic. They were real perfectionists. Greenfield also tells many stories about their different and interesting experiences and some of the people they meet, whilst running their B&B.

However, their success came at a price. Having won this major award, they felt that their personal life and space was being invaded - as the B&B place was also their home. They would also have had to kept up their incredibly high standards of course, in order to 'stay on top'. They decided that for the sake of their relationship and to protect their way of life within this, they had to sell up their B&B, whilst they were at their peak. I could understand their reasons, but still, it brought tears to my eyes...

I thought many things were amazing and wonderful about the book - e.g.

1. The style of the writing - it was very gripping and really made you want to read more.
2.
