Product Description

Synopsis

Sammy the Elephant is reintroduced to his own inner strengths and abilities through the guidance of Mr. Camel. After Sammy goes through a learning period during which he discovers many things he can do well, there is a crisis-- a fire near the circus -- and a resolution, as Sammy saves the day. Sammy emerges from his experiences with a new sense of self-appreciation. The story does not overtly deal with bedwetting and incontinence issues. A "Note to Parents" section includes educational information about bed wetting -- normal development vs. problem, talking to pediatrician or mental health professional, parent skills to cope with bedwetting and more.

Specifically written to help young children to overcome the problem of bed wetting 11 Sep 2005
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Enhanced with the delightful illustrations by Marcy Ramsey and now in its second edition, Sammy The Elephant & Mr. Camel is the collaboratively written picturebook story by Jayce C. Mills and Richard J. Crowley specifically written to help young children to overcome the problem of bed wetting. In the allegorical story, a young elephant named Sammy has difficulty holding and carrying buckets of water. Mr. Camel offers him guidance: "You just have to trust you can do it. Some things take a little more time to learn than others, Sammy. And you have time to learn that now." As Sammy grows and practices, he learns new abilities that he can put to good use when a fire breaks out and he has to carry and hold water, then use it at just the right spot to put the fire out. The final pages of Sammy The Elephant & Mr. Camel offer detailed information for parents, by children's author and psychologist Jane Annunziata, Psy.D., about when to recognize urinary incontinence as a problem in children, and what can be done about it, including the importance of first ruling out infections or similar problems. Very highly recommended.

To an adult this will be the funniest book you have ever read. For a child struggling with Diurnal Enuresis this may be a life saving book. I recommend this book to anybody who likes to read. I believe Mr Camel deserves the Nobel Peace Prize due to his time and effort spent training Sammy the Elephant to carry a bucket of water. Had Mr. Camel not taught Sammy how to hold on to it for a really long time the whole town would have burned.

This is a wonderful resource for parents of children who have a bed wetting problem. Reading this book can help the child let go of guilt and build self-esteem.
