Product Description

Inspired by Rick Sammon's popular workshops given around the world, this indispensable handbook condenses the master photographer's most important lessons into one easy-to-carry guide. Designed for outdoor and travel photographers of any skill level, this book will come in handy for a wide range of potential shooting situations. The Field Guide, illustrated with hundreds of Rick's own photographs, offers great advice on how to get the best images with the resources at hand, and gives dozens of crucial lessons for the mobile digital photographer, each one crafted in Rick's trademark nontechnical and intuitive manner. Readers will learn how to prevent bad exposures in less-than-ideal conditions and will discover how to fix images that may have unexpected flaws. This is the portable Rick Sammon all of his fans have been waiting for - small enough to fit in your camera bag.

Great Photos but... 6 Aug 2009
By Shelly Sullivan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Rick takes great photos but I expected more HOW TOs & specific examples than appeared in the book. The more detail info the more I like it and am able to learn by it.

A real disappointment! 16 Oct 2009
By C. J. Boyle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I expected a lot from this book... I own several of Rick Sammon's photography books and have learned a lot reading them and referring back to them. But this one was a huge disappointment to me. I expected meat, but what I got was fluff. While the photos are generally beautiful and well-executed, and there are a few (too few!) concrete tips to try yourself, much of the book was like reading a long magazine article. I would have liked information such as "I shot this picture using such and such a lens, set at aperture X and exposure Y, because..." I suggest this is more a beginner's book designed to inspire rather than one for anyone who is looking for real ways to improve their photographic techniques and skills.
Digital. Field. Quick. Great. 31 Aug 2011
By Debnance at Readerbuzz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
All the adjectives in the title are applicable to the book: Digital. Field. Quick. Great. Especially great.

I checked this out from the library initially and then bought my own copy.
