4.0 out of 5 stars So why no promotion?, 29 Oct 2004

This review is from: Same Girl (Audio CD)
Well everyone is trying to say here is the next up and coming singer or watch out for..... It seems strange that Trina Broussard who after some time has finally released her long awaited debut "Same Girl" on Motown isn't getting the kudos she deserves. Coming from a family with close connections to music, her mum being a Jazz singer and her father a session guitar player who played with the likes of Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder it is no surprise that her album has a distinctly late 70's to early 80's feel to it. I have to say that the album has a nice flow from start to finish and there is a lot of emotion and harmony that is not overdone unlike many contemporary singers of today.

The album is really a statement of who she is and what she's about. She even mentions that the album represents her, the same girl that goes through ups and downs, the same girl that has weight issues and still comes out undefeated. The topics are varied and carried out with real panache. I'm glad that she has managed to get this album out but just a slight bit disappointed that it hasn't had the exposure it deserves.

Give it a listen somewhere and I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars new soulful singer signing on Motown, 11 April 2006
This review is from: Same Girl (Audio CD)
Trina Brousssard has finally released her debut album "same girl". After hearing from her through the grapevine, I decided to buy this album and was not disappointed by all the hype. Every song is very well crafted, with beautiful vocal arrangements and great production. The highlights of the album are the catchy "these are the days" and the melodramatic "out/gone". She is a very underrated singer and every soul/R & B fan should possess a copy of this excellent CD. This is Whitney Houston without the pop influence...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album in the modern business, 16 Sep 2011
This review is from: Same Girl (Audio CD)
Trina Broussard was a name that popped up on my radar as a result of her session work with Rahsaan Patterson on his "After Hours" album and her cover of Minnie Ripperton's "Inside My Love". Her style is very much of a jazz background - smooth and sophisticated - and much of the music on "Same Girl" fits that criteria.
In todays single based sales, its pleasing to find an album where most of, if not all, tracks stand on their own merit. Particular faves are "Dreamin' of One", "Thinkin' Boutcha" and "Lies" as well as the first single "These Are The Day's". The last track "No Way Out" is a great end with its uplifting vibe. Production is from alot of the team on Rahsaan's albums including Jamey Jaz and Van Hunt and Rahsaan himself features on alot of the songwriting credits and background vocals. Overall an album that offers a quality change in a much congested market, but will never get the promotion or hype it deserves.
