Product Description

Description

The famed West London-based instrumental hip-hop outfit return with another eclectic opus, SAME AS IT NEVER WAS. Leaders Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry build on their base of inventive hip-hop, blending elements of funk, jazz, soul, electro, and pop. R&B diva Jessica Darling blesses five tracks with her sultry vocal work while guest MCs Jean Grae, Yungun (aka Essa), and More or Les pick up the mic on a track apiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse and enjoyable beats, 1 Oct 2008
By Krisman (Ipswich, UK) - See all my reviews
For all Herbaliser fans out there this is a must. For all non Herbaliser fans who like funny, thoughtful diverse and just plain enjoyable beats this one is also for you. Herbaliser takes you on a fun ride that doesn't tire and has enough uplifting material to put a smile on your face in these times of mass media misery. This is the pill that will make you happy, so put down the valium and put this on instead. If only the NHS prescribed these kind of albums I swear there would be less problems out there! Put it in your basket and set the stereo to 11.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fading group with a lack of ideas!!, 18 Dec 2008
Bought this album having purchased the Herbs Fabriclive cd and a couple of their albums over the years. What can I say, it's flat, lacking the Herbs usual input of ideas and general enthusiasm for creating a sound that is going to make you want to hear it more than just the once and then put the cd to the back of your collection (which is where this will be going or a car boot sale). I would say beware before purchasing, very disapointing album!!.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not their best, 23 Feb 2009
Quite listenable but not one of their strongest albums, sadly. One or two tracks stand out (including the title track) but most seem to be rehashed from earlier albums ("Street Karma" is strongly reminiscent of a rap track from Something Wicked...). The weirdest track on the album has to be "Amores Bongo" simply because it sounds like it should be the theme tune to some 70's sitcom ("Terry And June Do Acid", perhaps??). Good to see that the genre of funky jazz with a brass section is still alive and kicking but there are better specimens around.
