5.0 out of 5 stars Salvation Creek - MY SALVATION TOO!, 1 Jun 2007
By J. Urwin "Helen Urwin" (Nr Newcastle on Tyne UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I came across this book by pure accident and was staggered by how much its content mirrored my own circumstances - even down to the Jack Russell dog. I too am recovering from the life-changing effects of a very serious illness and Ms Duncan's totally honest account of events in her life although never mawkish struck an unbelievable chord! I laughed out loud wept copious tears and simply couldn't put it down, in fact I read it 3 times one after the other, I just couldn't get enough of her depictions of the heartwarming characters and wonderfully descriptive scenes of the Pittwater community and its laid back outdoors lifestyle, so atmospherically written about that I wanted to buy a one-way ticket to OZ. I keep the book at my bedside so that I can dip into it to re-read favourite passages whenever I'm down and in need of a lift.

I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is struggling or overwhelmed by uncontrollable events in their lives

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read, 4 Feb 2007
By Penelope Lakin (Hampshire, England) - See all my reviews

I loved this book. It is written so beautifully and I only wish I could go and visit 'Salvation Creek' and meet the fascinating people, and dogs, who live there. Duncan writes with such sensitivity and feeling having obviously experienced such loss and, ultimately, happiness. This is definitely one of the best books I have read all year and I recommend it highly to everybody. I have just ordered one to give to my sister who reviews books all the time, as I know she will love it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling read, 19 Mar 2009
By Allie T (Dorset) - See all my reviews
I was recommended this book by my sister who lives very near to where it is set in Pittwater, near Sydney. It is a heartbreaking book in parts, and so well written that it reads like a novel - except it's actually autobiographical. It is a brilliant read, unputdownable and ultimately uplifting. The descriptions of the locations are so accurate and having been to many of the places that she describes myself, I particularly enjoyed reading about them.
An excellent book, I look forward to reading the sequel.
