I was attracted to this model by the easy to clean glass top. I had a play with one in a department store and offer the following comments. It looks larger in the picture than in real life - actual size is only 26 x 19 cm. There is only one control visible - under the glass panel - so it is not a proper button and I found it very unresponsive, making it difficult to turn the scales off. If you want to change from metric to imperial (no fluid measure offered on this model) you have press another button on the underneath of the scales (so you can't change units whilst in the middle of weighing). Otherwise, nice to look at, hygenic and slim. I ended up buying the 1030 model instead, which had easier controls.

I was looking for a kitchen scale to replace a previous all-glass Salter scale of 6 years, which recently fell into three pieces. That was my fault, however, and I trusted Salter, and wanted a similar scale.

I chose this one (the actual model is a "1041SVDR") over the other Salter models on several criteria:
- the shape (rectangular) and size mean it fits easily in a drawer or cupboard; there are smaller, rounded models, but I find them more cumbersome to store.
- the top surface is glass, and easy to clean
- the entire top surface can be used for weighing: some other models have a smaller weighing area enclosed in a larger top surface, which will mean you can't weigh something bigger than the area. This scale will let you weigh containers bigger than it - they just extend over the edge of the scale
- it's attractive and very simple to use
- weighing is to the nearest gram, and settling time is very low - just a couple of seconds

The only drawback I have found is:
- the on-off-zero "button" is actually an optical sensor, and you can sometimes accidentally turn off the scale when you want to zero it, because it's very sensitive

Overall, this is the pick of the bunch of Salter's electronic scales, and the one I'd recommend every time. My advice would only change if you are more concerned about the appearance of the scale: Salter make some more attractive ones in black, and with blue displays. However, this is the best and most usable one.

This unit is very slim and has a glass top, Amazon have a white and silver version, mine is the silver one. The on/off button is make believe as its under the glass so the unit must sense a change in weight, not sure if it works on a tap or a prolonged press to turn off, havent had much success in that area, LOL. Always managed to get it to turn off just not at first attempt, it does auto power off so that isnt a major issue. It always turns on first attempt. I will get knack, only used it twice. That aside it is very nicely styled modern yet conservative. Works well, lets you reset it with a weight on so you can add stuff and weight that, etc. Uses 2xAAA so easy to replace. One big point to note, its made by Salter and has a 15 year guarantee. Being a glass top with no recesses, its simply wipe clean and put away or leave out, its so slim and nice to look at. Gave it a 5 think it deserves it.

Have used scales extensively over the last few weeks and found to be very easy to use and accurate. On/off button is an optical sensor so takes a couple of seconds for display to zero itself after you've touched the button but no problem once you've realised this. Easy to change between metric and imperial.

I've bought it recently and I'm very happy with it. What I like the most is the glass top that covers the whole scale. So if anything spills the display is protected. Good quality and precision.

I like the glass surface and simplicity of this item, and the fact it doesn't need it's own bulky bowl; you can reset it to zero one you've placed your own bowl upon it. But I chose this model because it is described as being silver in colour - the image could give the impression of a metallic sheen - but it is instead a flat pale grey.

these scales are perfect if you don't have an awful lot of room as they fit nicely into the smallest spaces or even a drawer. They are very simple and easy to use and i would not hesitate to recommend them.

I received these scales a few weeks ago, have used them regularly and I can honestly say that they are the best scales I've ever had. I was a little apprehensive about the one/off sensor switch based on other reviews but I don't see what the issue is; just touch the 'button' for a couple of seconds and the scales come on. You can switch off in the same way or just leave untouched and they will 'time out' and turn off automatically after a short while. The same 'button' is also used to 'zero' for adding ingredients. I LOVE that they can be cleaned so easily and that because of the full glass coverage there is no problem with food particles getting lodged in hard to reach places. Another brilliant feature is that because they are slightly longer than usual I can place a big bowl on them and still see the display - no more balancing bowls on narrower objects in an effort to see the display! Finally, and because I'm usually on a diet and like to be very precise with my weights, they weigh to the nearest gram, unlike my last set of scales which only displayed to the nearest two grams. If you're thinking about buying these scales then just do it - you will not be disappointed!
