I bought this to replace an older Salter Aquatronic that I had dropped and broken and I much prefer this one. It's much neater and more compact than my previous one and I particularly like the fact that the graduations are so small (1 g / 1/8 oz / 1 ml / 1/8 fl. oz). I am delighted with it in every way.

I bought this to replace an older Salter scale that died after 15 years regular use.

Best point:

Same size as the previous one, which had a very useful weighing pan - better for my needs than I could find on any other current model. The pan still fits. If you want, you can get the current one with the weighing pan for just a little more. The pan is large and stable, with a flat base fitting the top of the scale. I find it most useful for weighing and pre-mixing bread mixes before I put them in my breadmaker. I get better results from pre-mixing than just loading the ingredients in the recommended order.

Less good points:

The aquatronic "feature" is a useless gimmick, which makes the controls more complicated than necessary. It gives you the option to display the weight in ml or fl.oz (which are volume measures), as well as g or oz. For liquids with the density of water, you don't need this because 1 ml = 1 g and 1 fl.oz = 1 oz. You might just as well weigh in g or oz. For other liquids such as oils, the displayed volume will be wrong.

When you turn it off, it forgets the units you last chose. It defaults to g. The old one remembered, which is slightly better if some of your recipes are in g and others in oz.

I bought these scales for their 'liquid measurement' feature; what a great idea - need 250ml of oil for a salad dressing? 100ml of treacle for gingerbread? Surely then you just pick a suitable setting for oil or syrup?

Unfortunately all the 'Aquatronic' seems to do is change the 'g' unit to 'ml'. I know it's difficult to believe, but really, that's all it does!

I'm surprised this sort of thing is even legal. They claim it measures liquids. Liquids are measured by volume. For a weighing scale to measure volume, it MUST be possible to set the density, otherwise it's just measuring the weight of the liquid and you'll get different volumes for different liquids.

This is an absolute con, don't be fooled by their clever marketing weasel words...
