Salter, the UK brand leader in kitchen and bathroom scales is proud to be celebrating 250 years in the housewares industry in 2010! Salter, the UK’s leading weighing scales brand will be celebrating 250 years of precision technology during 2010. From its beginnings in 1760 right through to the present day, Salter products have been developed to enable total confidence in their accuracy, whether in the kitchen, the bathroom, in doctor’s surgeries or in public places. Founded in 1760 by Richard Salter, a spring maker, the first products were known as ‘pocket steelyards’, a scale similar to today’s fisherman’s scale. When George Salter took over from his uncle in 1825, the company established a large manufacturing site and shop in West Bromwich, producing a wide variety of scales, including the UK’s first ever bathroom scale. For 250 years, the company has taken pride at being at the forefront of technological developments in the weighing category and has pioneered many areas, including coin-operated scales for use by the general public as well as infant weighing scales. Over the past few decades, Salter has developed products that have become increasingly advanced, while at the same time answering the need for design-conscious products in the home.

I'm really happy with these scales. They're slim so easy to store on their side in a cupboard if you don't want them laying on your work top all the time. The display stays on for a decent amount of time if you forget an ingredient and need to get it out of the cupboard. All in all, a good buy!

I am not sure if Salter actually tests their products beyond one time and in a fluorescent light kitchen. The screen is dark and the buttons are just underneath the tray which is not a good design. If one gets any flour between the buttons, it is impossible to clean.

The scales arrived safely and everything seems to work fine. I was a little disappointed when the supplied battery gave up after 2 days!!! My wife went to town and bought 3 spares.

Purchased these scales as I needed more capacity than my last set of scales. Out of the box the scales look good and well designed. When using the scales, the display is clear and easy to read and the large platform means that the scale can easily cope with large bowls. Once finished, the scales are easy to clean but.......there are a few problems. Firstly, you can only weigh in 2 g amounts. Whilst I knew about this before, and thought that it wouldn't be an issue, it can be annoying, especially when weighing small amounts. Also, I've found when using the scales, that the zero button sometimes sticks and needs to be pressed again for it to work.

I had a set of EKS which had lasted 20+ years but started to fail recently. I tried several scales but this is by far the best value for money. I tried the Duronic KS5000 which are also £19.99 and the difference is unreal. These are well made of stainless steel whilst the Duronic are nasty cheap plastic. The buttons on this set are also proper ones rather than flat membrane which gives you a good feel on each push. They also come with a 15 year guarantee so you cannot ask for much more!

Especially good if you're trying to diet - the ability to weigh dry products and liquids is a godsend. Delighted with it.

I required a new set of kitchen scales and having had a Salter Scale before I decided that I would try and purchase another Salter product. I go for easy to operate and understand the instructions on any product. These were very easy to use and having now had them for a few weeks, I can recommend them.

I gave it one star - and that was only because I own other Salter products which WORK. This kitchen scale never displayed any weights and, even though I went out and replaced the batteries (not knowing how long this model had been on the shelf and feeling charitable), the display continued to indicate....nothing!
