Our original four way Salter kitchen timer (the "blue" one) broke when it was dropped on the floor so I tried to find an exact replacement but, like Amazon, most places reported it being unavailable.
I therefore bought what I assume is the latest version (Salter 392, or the "green" one).
Even though it still 'works', I am thinking about buying another timer altogether as this one is so poor.
Firstly the buttons are much stiffer and dont seem to work as well as the older model. However, the biggest flaw is it's battery compartment. The battery cover is at the top of the back panel but when you try and set the time for the various timers, the cover slips off and the batteries fall out.
This is a serious design flaw.
Bring back the original which was a great timer.

which must have been from another batch from all of the other reviews. I did not read any of them before purchasing and don't really understand what they are referring to after buying it.

My old timer was a mechanical Swiss designer one, bought twice after having dropped them and the mechanism breaking. I did this both times when taking it off the fridge as the magnet had more of a hold than I realised and snapped back before dropping off. This would be a 'fridge door - magnet' thing rather than a design fault and this one does it as well. The solution is to remember to have a better grip on it, in my experience for all three units I have owned.

I bought a digital one in the hope that if I do drop it it will be more durable, if not then it is no worse than a designer mechanical. It also has a stand, but I won't be using it as I prefer it out of the way on the fridge, but maybe this is the solution to dropping it.

Setting the clock is no problem and I must have very strong fingers as I have not had any problems with the buttons that others refer to. They need to be pressed firmly, but unless I had read about it I would not be aware of this supposed problem. Each press emits a beep, similar to setting a digital alarm clock, which I suppose may bother some but not me.

There are four alarms, three more than I will ever use, and they are easily set with the hour, minute and - strangely - second buttons. I don't need a seconds timer as there is nothing I can think of that I would need less than one minute for, but it has that flexibility if needed.

One review refers to the battery compartment back coming off in use and again I have no idea how they are managing to do this in everyday use.

Great in concept... 4 timers in one, counts up as well as down. But all the buttons require a firm push, making one feel the need to put a finger on the back side to gain leverage when setting time. Alas, that is the location of the battery door which instantly comes loose and the power is lost! The magnet is placed such that one cannot set the time while attached to a fridge. It levers the magnet off the fridge requiring a quick catch of the timer. In less than 6 months the unit failed altogether. I'm not impressed!

Basically, the design idea is good but the execution is poor. The unit does indeed have 4 separate timers, all of which can if required run in parallel. Moreover, each timer can run up or down. Also, It is easy to switch to and from the desired timer, and it is clear which timer is being displayed.

However, the unit is very lighweight and this, combined with the stiff (almost to the point that you think that they are broken) buttons, makes this a not-very-satisfactory device to use. It appears unlikely to survive a fall on to a tiled kitchen floor. The battery cover is not particularly secure. The stand is very narrow, and you need to pick the unit up and hold it firmly in order to activate any of the buttons, even just the start/stop - you cannot just touch the button.

At the time of writing, this timer is not available on Amazon, but you can get them at Argos, which, unfortunately, has a poor selection of timers. If you really need a multiple-timer device, or are in a hurry and can't wait for a postal delivery, go for this device, but otherwise look for something more substantial.

If you are in the situation of having to pace your activities to limit the effects of living with chronic pain, this timer is a total gem. I wore out my last one over 2 years, the back fell off and the battery was held in place with tape for at least half that time. But there isn't anything else as good as this one on the market,

A really useful timer to have in the kitchen. Four items cooking and all under the watchful eye of this smart little timer which also looks good. We've recommended it to our friends.

I agree with the other critical reviews. I like the multiple function, but this device is so poorly made that just pushing the buttons is awkward as they tend to stick. Plus what can I say.....Its Ugly!

This timer is absolutely useless. If you want a (very) small kithen clock it might do, but the back falls off every time you attempt to set the minutes button, which has now stopped working after about 3 uses. It is of cheap and nasty plastic construction and is going straight back. Do not buy this. Wish I'd taken heed of similar warnings on this and other sites.
