There are many who consider Tad to have been the ultimate grunge band. And I am very much one of them.
The term heavy is used widely when one considers the likes of Nirvana, Soundgarden albeit those of us who like our rock understand that heavy takes a little more effort.
Tad defined heavy, the band were monstrous consumers of drugs and booze and when they played, walls and ceilings were in serious danger of collapse. Their first album called Gods Balls, was a brutal full frontal grunge assault by a band that sounded like it had emerged from a swamp carrying firearms and the odd animal carcass. It was Texas Chainsaw made real.
For their second ep, the band were linked up with the worlds most enigmatic, minimalist producer, Steve Albini. Albini understands sound, he totally got Tad and in laying down these tracks created a massively heavy yet dextrous album full of crushing grunge and brilliant songs.
If you don't own it yet, then your life is incomplete. Seriously, if money is tight, make bread for your neighbours and sell it to them for profit, but whatever you do, get this record, play it louder than the devil with a headache and you will feel much, much better.
