This is quite an unusual novel. The standard template of a misunderstood witch in a mortal world is totally turned on it's head. Prudence Stewart is a teenaged witch without the angst she's a Type A personality, straight A student and Head cheerleader. Life couldn't be more perfect, she keeps her magick on the down low and lives the high life.
You guessed it there's an until...He younger brother's magick becomes so out of control that the family is forced to re-locate to witch central Salem. Here she's entered into Witch school where her rusty magical skills and chirpy mortal outlook get her nothing but remidial classes and not so much cool as frozen out of all the cliques. Pru reaches for the solace in her life Cheerleading, surely that can't be so different. oh yes thats a whole different kettle of toads. Although they use there magic to cheer the cheerleaders attitudes and routines are horrible and Pru decides the way to make an impact is to whip them into shape. the only problem is can her rusty magick make her shine enough to actually make the team?
This is a great storyline with a little for every teenage girl, One of those shiny people who we all know who seem to float through life without the battles the rest of us suffer is shown the flip side of life, set against a believable background of a magickal society and culture which holds its self both seperate and above normal society, where there is little leaway for those who are different ( sound familiar?). The story is written with humour and doesn't take it's self too seriously.
