An amazing keyboard 27 Feb 2006
By Bob
The Saitek Eclipse keyboard is designed for PC gamers who like to play their games with the room lights down low, and it does a great job. The backlighting is excellent and provides ample illumination for the user to see exactly which keys to press even in a totally darkened room, and the brightness can be adjusted with three settings, high, low and off. The board itself is very sturdy and the keys responsive, and the build quality is very impressive as is usual with Saitek products. If you want customizable keysets for your gaming board, have a look at the Zboard from Ideazon also available here on Amazon, but if you prefer a more standard board that gives you a classic layout, sleek futuristic styling, and the ability to play in the dark, then the Saitek Eclipse is an absolutely unbeatable choice.

Keyboard Perfection 3 Feb 2006
For someone who uses a keyboard 10+ hours a day, having a good one is vital. I've used many in my life, but so far the Saitek Eclipse is definitely the best.

The packaging the board comes in looks great, so immediately you already know this keyboard is going to be excellent.

The main draw, of course, is the neon blue glow behind the keys. It works like a charm, allowing you to easily see every key on the board no matter what the light is like. This is a huge plus for the gamers, not to mention those of us who are up late all the time doing lots of reports and essays.

The feel of the keys is wonderful, easily the softest I've ever used. They feel like a laptop and barely give off any sound at all. They are all well spaced out and I hardly ever hit 2 keys at once, unlike some other models I've had in the past. The spacebar is huge, too.

The board comes with height adjustable stands on the back and an adjustable wrist rest, which is all easily put into place.

Installing is simply a case of plugging in the USB cable, and following the brief on-screen prompts, which literally takes about 30 seconds.

As far as extras go, it's a very basic board, with hardly any multimedia buttons, which is something that doesn't bother me at all. There are 4 extra keys located above the numpad - which are volume down, volume up, mute, and a button to adjust the keyboard light (high, medium and off - very handy).

The board is made with high quality plastic, it's not one of those boards you can bend and it'll creak before it snaps into pieces, this board is tough and well built. It's fairly heavy, though.

The bottom of the board has grip pads on which work great, making sure your keyboard doesn't slip about the desk.

All in all, this is a top quality board. It feels great, it looks great, and the neon blue glow just tips the scales even more - plus it has a great price.

100 stars out of 5, it's that good.

Firstly: the reviews below that claim the key legends are wearing off must be for the Saitek Gaming keyboard and not the Eclipse as shown here. The Eclipse has laser etched key legends which can't wear off unless the whole top of the key comes with them!
I'm using my new keyboard to type this review (it's first usage, which is fitting) and it's very good. The keys feel well damped but positive: they are quiet in operation. The keyboard installed automatically under XP and the backlighting is attractive and, more importantly, very effective. For those times when I'm playing first person games in dark (virtual) rooms in my dark (real) room then this will be as invaluable as I'd hoped.
The footprint of the keyboard is quite minimal so don't believe the comment about that below either. Oh, there's a 2 year guarantee too which is useful but I don't see what can go wrong with it: the leds will last a lifetime and the construction quality seems good. Recommended.

Great keyboard
