Product Description

CD Description

After the major quadruple-platinum selling success of The Galway Girl album in Ireland and her two Meteor awards increasing her popularity even further & spanning generations of fans, Sharon really is thought of as the country's greatest national treasure.

This new studio album includes several newly penned tracks by the accordion maestro herself and boasts a hoard of special guests including Imelda May, Jerry Fish, Carol Keogh (Automata), Justin Adams (Robert Plant Band), Jack the Rapper and introducing the mighty Cartoon Thieves. One of her instrumentals, ‘Cape Clear’, features in new Neil Jordan movie Ondine in which Sharon stars as herself alongside Colin Farrell. This will be premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2009.

Perhaps the most musically important track is ‘Saints & Angels’ written by chief Waterboy Mike Scott. This track was written for Fisherman’s Blues but was never included on the album. The new recording features the first ever reunion of that classic 1989 line-up that includes Mike, Steve Wickham, Anthony Thistlethwaite, Trevor Hutchinson and Sharon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slumming it 27 Sep 2011
Format:Audio CD
Since Sharon's first album back in 1991, her career seems to have been dedicated to trying to merge Irish trad music with different forms of modern pop - reggae, hip-hop even rap. On Out The Gap(1994), Each Little Thing (1997), and Libertango (2003), this worked brilliantly. Any of these albums would be a great intro for someone wanting to get into Irish trad, but not knowing where to start.
But this album, like Live at Dolans, is sloppy and self-indulgent. The problem here is not Sharon - wonderful as ever - but her accomplices. For a newcomer to Sharon's music, this would be the last album I would recommend. All the above named are much better albums. You could then try her two 'really' trad collaborations; Tunes(2005) and Renegade (2007), both with the mighty Michael McGoldrick. My two stars are mainly for the Waterboys' track (who are on one track, not two as the cover claims).

Great party mood throughout much of this album, kept alive with a variety of sound, song style and well known artists. Sure to be good live too.

5.0 out of 5 stars musical jollity 25 Feb 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
From the very first song to the last musical piece, my wife and I found this was a most enjoyable album. We were introduced to Sharon Shannon`s album via the magazine
Songlines. "Howdy Horse",the second track was featured on the world samples CD.
Most of the songs on the album were of the foot tapping type of music.
Congratulations to Sharon Shannon and the guest artists for such a fine performance.
