Product Description

Made-for-television horror, based on the story by Clive Barker. In 1815, in a monastery on the Pacific Northwest coast, Tomas (Greg Serano) and Gregory (Antonio Cupo) are young apprentice monks who stumble upon a secret room where the abbot keeps dangerous religious relics collected from all over the world. Unwittingly they unleash two evil demons, Munkar (Mary Mara) and Nakir (Rebecca Harrell), creatures who have been imprisoned in one of these relics for centuries. After killing Gregory, the demons manage to escape through time into the present day, where they are pursued by a vengeful Tomas, armed with the dagger of Saint Nicademus. When the demons go on a horrific killing spree, detectives Rachel Dressler (Gina Ravera) and Morgan Rand (Art Hindle) are assigned to the case, and when Tomas is spotted at the scene of one of the crimes, he immediately becomes their prime suspect. Can Tomas convince the police of his sacred mission, or will Munkar and Nakir be free to roam our world for eternity?

4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly Good 30 Aug 2006
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A monk unwittingly sets two succubi free and pursues them forwards in time to kill them and undo what he's done. The story begins in a fairly linear fashion, but subsequently there are some surprise twists and turns in the plot as the monk returns to the future version of the monestary that he'd left.

I like Clive Barker's stuff but I thought this film might have been on the cheesy side. However I was wrong, and as well as a plotline that becomes interesting, there are some nicely gross special effects too, particularly the way the succubi fed on their victims.

This is beyond a simple "chase" or "race against time" film with a number of unusual elements; it was an unexpectedly good watch.

3.0 out of 5 stars A near miss 18 May 2013
Format:DVD
Considering the limited budget this TV movie has, it feels like three movies crammed into one.

A medieval monk accidentally sets two succubi free who then magically transports themselves to modern day Seattle and the monk has to follow and capture them.

The bad things about this movie; some of the acting is dreadful; there is far too much daylight - it would have been better if it was mostly shot at night; the characters of the succubi aren't given enough depth; and it gets a little too preachy in places with its "trust God" theme.

The good stuff; the are some BRILLIANT ideas - the way the succubi feed; The Wheel of Time (seriously, that could have been a movie on its own); the Dagger of Nikkidimus (again, great back story - could have been a movie in its own right); some of the makeup effects are really cool - I LOVED the birthing scene.

Some of the themes was fantastic - the idea of humans evolving into demons, and then similarly the demons evolving into something else. But if you mix all of this together... it gets a bit messy, and I felt that a good mythos was being created but never properly explored. 3/5
