Brilliant! Has lots of interesting jargon and abbreviations which I knew nothing about, a book of knowledge for any budding seafarer! Great read too for anyone interested in Naval terms:

Excellent Companion to the Aubrey/Maturin Enthusiast,
By Bay Gibbons - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Nautical Terms - The Sailor's Word-book (Kindle Edition)
This little handbook of nautical terms is precisely what the ship's surgeon ordered for smooth sailing through the marvelously jargon-ridden seascape of the works of Patrick O'Brian. In his twenty-one volume corpus of the Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin novels beginning with Master and Commander (Aubrey Maturin Series)and Post Captain (Aubrey Maturin Series), O'Brian was loathe to pause to translate eighteenth and nineteenth century shipboard speech for the landlubberly. Highly recommended!

By CHARLES SCOTT JOHNSON - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Nautical Terms - The Sailor's Word-book (Kindle Edition)
If one does much reading about Naval operations in the age of sail or even an interest in Naval traditions, this a a wonderful reference to have available.

Check the date of publication before you buy this book. It was written in the 1800's and this is not apparent in the blurb about the book. |
