Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The SAGEM PVR 7280T belongs to the very latest generation of SAGEM Terrestrial TV receivers/recorders. With a 80GB hard disk, the SAGEM PVR 7280T gives you access to 10 Top Up TV plus 30 free channels in digital quality for picture and sound plus enables up to 40 hours recording of TV programs in DVD-like quality. The design objective of this silver set top box is to meet the demands of today's busy lifestyle with a slim and stylish finish, offering powerful and easy-to-use features.

Bringing so much more than just simple recording functionality, the SAGEM PVR7280T, with its hard disk and twin tuner, brings a new dimension to your TV. Enabling you to surf as you wish between live and differed time, you can 'interrupt' at your leisure, any live program (for a maximum period of 30 minutes) and continue from the point at which it was paused in differed mode. As a result of SAGEM PVR 7280T twin tuner, it is possible to watch a program (live or recorded) and record another at the same time.

Many functions such as the 7-day Electronic Programme Guide - EPG, with resized video and easy recording schedules increase your entertainment and ease of use. The high-technology processor allows a very quick and easy installation process, with an antenna adjustment tool for optimal signal quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Focusses on the important features, 23 Jun 2006
By Kemp "kempstone" (Bedford, England) - See all my reviews
Once you get one of these devices your DVD recorder will be consigned to the subs bench. It's a piece of cake to schedule a recording from the interactive TV guide, and then you can access your recordings directly - again from a menu.

You can skip adverts / boring sections at a wide range of skip speeds - still seeing clips of the picture as you do so.

You can then delete whichever recordings you want to, keeping those you want to watchg again - the 80GB disk gives the space you need.

The twin Top-Up TV tuner capability means there is no need to pay Sky's huge fees for Sky Plus.

The first version of the software was a bit dodgy, but it was updated "over the air" and is now much improved. You will have the odd issue - but the fact you can schedule and view recordings so easily makes all the difference.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice features let down by very poor support, 31 Jan 2007

I've had this product for a few years and was generally happy with the product. It had it's fair share of bugs which rare software updates would try to fix but I used it for the odd recording and watching of TV. The live pause was unreliable and would usually stop working or freeze. As of November 2006, an over the air update was released that stopped the TV guide from working properly. Sagem were very poor at reponding to this, and as of Jan 2007, no fix is available, making the unit virtually useless unless the channel you want to record on has a full TV listing. As such - beware of this. I, for one, based on their poor response, won't be buying Sagem again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, very good, 30 Nov 2008
By E. Pilkington (UK) - See all my reviews

    A real fast review:
When first out of the box, this thing was buggy, awkward and annoying - make sure that you do the over the air software upgrade! It's very easy, and fully automatic once you start it.
Once that's done, the thing starts to sparkle. Good picture, good sound, very intuitive controls via the remote (no interface via the machine itself, so don't break or lose the remote!).
Recording functions allow you to record a program that is already playing; choose a program from the Electronic Program Guide; set a weekly (5 or 7 days a week) or daily standing record function; or, to record a channel for any period of time in units of 30 minutes (ie, select the channel, press the button once for 30 mins, twice for 60mins etc). The unit does not adjust if a program overruns!
Pause live TV function - works well MOST OF THE TIME. This is one of the few bugs with the unit. When restarting live TV after a pause, the programme can jump to another point in time. You can still rewind to the point at which you paused (I believe up to one hour from the current time).
Playback from record is easy to use - select LIST then scroll up and down the recorded programs and select OK.
Deleting from the list of recorded programs is as easy.
The display shows how much room you have left to record additional programs.
There is only the ability to record one program at a time, though you can watch one channel and record a second. (One of the other reviews talks about an upgrade to allow two records, but I have no experience of that).
There is no picture in picture function and, though this function is in the menu, the ability to maintain the sound levels seems buggy. This means that sometimes the volume increases when adverts come on.
Overall, I find this unit superior to other makes I have used, but with the bugs detailed above. It's not a 5 star, but a good 4 star and available from £50 for the 80Gb unit.
