2.0 out of 5 stars You need to know basic accounting first!, 3 Mar 2010
This review is from: Sage 50 Accounts 2010 in Easy Steps (Paperback)
My experience with the training provided by software providers is that it's rarely created with the user in mind. Having recently become self-employed I thought that this book, being sub-titled "accounting for non-accountants" would help. Not much! I suggest that this book is more for "I know what I want to do, but how do I do it?" - very much like when you go to a new version of Word or Excel.
Having now found my way around Sage, I do use this book as a reference and if that's what you need then this may be the book for you - it's certainly clear and easy to follow, but if you want something to guide you through the basics of accounting as you use an accounting package, this is not for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate - but faintly disappointing, 1 Jun 2010

This review is from: Sage 50 Accounts 2010 in Easy Steps (Paperback)
I bought this book to ensure I had a reference for all the latest features of the software - wrong! I was very disappointed to realise that at least one that I wanted to use - the Cash Register module - wasn't even mentioned. Was it only the cover that was updated for this version of the book?

The basic functions of the software are represented well enough and the "easy steps" presentation does what it says. But the book has a decidedly elementary presentation and lacks any real appeal.

I was left wondering who this book is really aimed at. The sub-title is "accounting for non-accountants" but it doesn't teach the subject of accounting (and are non-accountants likely to buy such a powerful, fully-featured version of Sage Accounts anyway?) And since it doesn't cover all the features of the the program, anyone looking for a complete guide to Sage 50 Accounts 2010 is likely to feel let down.

The book deserves its place on the bookshelf, certainly. But, ultimately, it's underwhelming and less than what you expect.
