Actually it would be completely unfair to Alessandro Safina to even compare him to Russell Watson. I think Watson has done his bit in bringing Opera to the masses, but when all's said and done he sounds better when he drops the opera voice and sings pop music. Alessandro, on the other hand, has combined his operatic tenor with contemporary music to great effect.
I stumbled across Luna on a music channel (and realised that he'd sung The Music of the Night on The Royal Variety Show) and just had to buy this CD.
I've listened to it once and am not disappointed - his rich, velvety voice is both tender and powerful so that, even though the lyrics for all but one song are in Italian, each track is an emotional journey. Particular stand outs are La Sete Di Vivere, Aria E Memoria, Il Mirto E La Rosa, and of course, Luna.
Highly recommended (I know it's trite to even mention it, but the guy's also a complete babe!)

I am Still in my teens, so I am unlike most people of my age when it comes to my musical taste. All through my life, from a very young age i was introduced to opera and classical music by my father. Since that day I have loved mainly classical music and haven't paid much attention to modern day rock and pop.
I found Luna while i was flicking through some of the music channels on the television. I was instantly taken in by the sound of Safina's voice. It was unlike any Tenor I have ever known. The music stood out to me because it was unlike normal opera, it has a beat and is a fantastic example of ' pop opera'. I only hope that as more and more people listen to this song, it will give people as much pleasure and happiness as it has done for me.

Like other people in the customer reviews, I came across Allesandro on one of the music channels singing Luna. I immediately went out to try to find his album and fortunately came across it in one of the large music stores. This all happened before the album received much publicity and I am truly delighted that it has done so well. My teenage daughter is also hooked, proving that there is something for everyone. I had previously thought that Russell Watson was good but this was before Safina launched this album. The tracks that stand out for me are:
Music of the night:
A lot of people have sung this song before and had their own interpretations but Safina sings it with power and depth.
Luna:
I can't describe this song to its full potential -you just have to listen to it for yourself - pure excellence.
Aria E Memoria:
Enchanting - I wish I understood the words but I suppose you don't have to understand, it's the way he sings it!!!
There are also 2 beautiful instrumentals:
Ehyeh and Diva Mea - Perfection!!!
Another favourite is the last track,
Arrivederci America:
It starts of like a ballad but explodes into a powerful chorus.
