I have bought a few Jacqueline Wilson books for my 11 year old grandaughter in the past year or two. We have mostly enjoyed them together as 'independent reading' which she does for school. When we began SECRETS we were both quite taken aback at some of the themes in this book, like domestic violence, child abuse, adultery, embezellment and a nana whose boyfriend is in jail. I seriously question whether these themes are appropriate reading for pre,or even for early teenage girls
Nowhere on the blurb of the book are these themes mentioned; they are glossed over.Terry is merely described as a "bullying stepfather." In SECRETS, Ms Wilson seems to have lost the plot (if you'll pardon the pun and the cliche)No more of her books for my grandaughter, that's for sure. Very disappointing!
