New fire safety rules affecting all non-domestic premises in England and Wales will come into force on 1 October 2006, in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (S.I. 2005/1541, ISBN 0110729455). This is one of a series of 11 publications which set out recommendations and guidance for employers, managers, occupiers and owners of particular types of premises on how to carry out a fire risk assessment and how to identify general fire precautions required (including fire detection and warning systems, firefighting equipment, escape routes, signs and training). This guide covers all premises used as a small or medium place of assembly (that is premises which can accommodate up to 300 people) including public houses and clubs, dance halls/schools, village halls and community centres, churches and other religious centres, temporary structures and marquees/tents. It does not apply to larger premises of assembly where more than 300 people could gather, which are covered by another guide in the series (ISBN 1851128212).
