5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable story 25 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
I have only recently discovered Nicholas Sparks but have very quickly grown to like his style of writing. I have previously read The Notebook and The Last Song. I have also seen Nights in Rodanthe and The Notebook on the TV.

The story behind this most recent book is well thought out and realistic. The characters are easy to relate to and the way the story goes from past to present works well. I really really enjoyed it - so much I went straight to Waterstones to try and buy another couple of his books.

There is also a lovely added twist at the end which leaves the reader with a big smile and warm feeling.

I see it has been made into a film and I think the storyline will lend itself very nicely to the big screen. The cynic in me asks whether Sparks is now writing FOR a film version? Whether he is or not I am finding his books to be terrific reads and this one is no exception!

5.0 out of 5 stars Safe Haven 23 Oct 2010
By Pam
Format:Paperback
I have loved all Nicholas' books. The Guardian I thought was the best, but Safe Haven beats even that. He has a wonderful way of expressing feelings and this one touched my heart in such a way that I couldn't put the book down. When reading his latest gripping story, you almost feel you are there with the characters experiencing the feelings of love and fear throughout. A spectacular read.

3.0 out of 5 stars No tissues required for this one! 19 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I like Nicholas Sparks. I've read at least 8 of his books by now and most of them have had me reaching for my box of tissues. No tissues at all were required because, thankfully, this one has a happy ending.

Katie is a former abused spouse who has finally found the courage to run away and has built a new life for herself in the small town of Southport. She begins a relationship with the local store owner Alex, a widower with two small children. However, her abusive ex-husband, is searching for her and...

Enough already! If, like me, you've seen "Sleeping With The Enemy" then a lot of this book is going to seem old and familiar. Sparks does conjure the feeling of suspense well but there was always a niggling feeling at the back of mind that I already knew how it was all going to play out.

I did like the side story of Jo, Katie's new neighbour, which was an unexpected twist and gave a nice finish to the story. However, I don't think "Safe Haven" is a book I would be picking up to read again in a hurry.

4.0 out of 5 stars In true Nicholas Sparks style.... 6 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I gave this book 4 stars as it certainly kept me reading, it wasnt dull at any point, and the characters kept me interested. There was an unexpected ending, but to be honest it didnt really need to be there, the book worked very well if it was never written in. I wasnt completely hooked on the love story between th two main characters, and I enjoyed the skipping from Katie and then back to her husband. A good read, recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Loveable and Heartfelt 22 July 2014
Format:Paperback
Love, romance, pain, fear and laughter...this book has it all.

I have read several of Nicholas Sparks books but Safe Haven was the only one which captivated me from the first chapter. After reading Safe Haven, it quickly became one of favourite books.
The characters in the book are thought out perfectly. The character of Katie shows how much time the author put into the character of her, from the first chapter you can see she struggles with something and has a secret which she must keep hidden. The other main characters are Alex who is a single father to his two young children, Kristen and Josh. The character of Jo is Katie's neighbour who helps her see what she already knew about her life.
All the main characters are lost and trying to find a way to be happy again. If I had to sum Safe Haven up in three words, they would be powerful, loveable and heartfelt.
It is one of those books which you can re-read again and again, and still be amazed each and every time.
When I heard it was being made into a movie, I was thrilled as I couldn't wait for them to tell the story on the big screen. I will be going to see it without a doubt.
I hope everyone who reads Safe Haven feels the same as me.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice, easy holiday read lovely but not amazing 10 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
ALthough I really enjoyed this book I found it a little tame. It is a nice, easy, relaxing read with a good but predictable story line. I read it on holiday and it was perfect for that as it didn't require my full attention to get theplot . Watched the film after the book and loved the film - can,t belbelieve I'm saying this but I think the film was better than the book!

4.0 out of 5 stars A hit if you are 16/17 years old and female! 17 Dec 2013
By JP
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Not my choice of book but a major hit with my 16 year old daughter. Normally a reluctant reader of books she requested this one. Good present for a difficult-to-buy-for-teenager.
