Book Description

An unforgettable novel from the world's favourite storyteller, re-issued with a stunning new cover

Product Description

On a wind-swept summer day in San Francisco, a solitary figure walks down the beach, a dog at her side. At eleven, Pip Mackenzie’s young life has already been touched by tragedy; nine months before, a terrible accident plunged her mother Ophelie into inconsolable grief. But on this chilly July afternoon, Pip meets artist Matt Bowles, who offers to teach the girl to draw — and can’t help but notice her beautiful, lonely mother. Matt Bowles senses something magical about Pip, who reminds him of his own daughter at that age, before a bitter divorce tore his family apart and swept his children halfway across the world. At first, Ophelie is thrown off-balance by her daughter’s new companion — until she realizes how much joy he is bringing into their lives. As Matt confronts unfinished business from his past, and Ophelie is struck by a stunning betrayal, out of the darkness that has shadowed them both comes an unexpected gift of hope.

I have read all of Danielle Steels books and this is amongst the best. It is a wonderful story of a mother and daughter coming to terms with loss but forgetting each other. The story gently unfolds and brings them both happiness. Although not as straightforward as that just to keep you thoroughly enthraled there is some deceit and action thrown in for good measure. It was great from cover to cover. I cannot wait for her next book.

Safe Harbour Review 2 Jan 2005
Format:Paperback
This is one of Steels' greatest books. I am a big fan, but this exceeds even my best expectations. There were many turns in the book I did not see, and no predictability. It was one of those where you don't want to put the book down. Heartbreaking in some aspects, but a warm and happy finish. A fantastic book overall

I had a hard time believing that this book was actualy edited before it was published. It was written as if several people wrote different stories (using the same repetitive words) and then they were merged. The same words and lines were used over and over and over again. It ruined the book for me but the story itself was wonderful. The plot is original and the story builds up in its own time...not to rushed like many others are. You can really imagine what the characters look like and the type of people they are, but once the book got towards the end the climax came quickly and the book was over. It needed to work on the climax of the book more slowly and then finish more slowly. The author takes plenty of time and moves slowly for most of the book and then just rushes through the end, which was disappointing. I think this book would make a wonderful Lifetime movie to watch on a rainy afternoon. And it would be a better book if it had a better writer. How Danielle Steele makes money with her poor writing skills is a mystery.
