Product Description

The islands of the Galapagos, situated off the coast of Ecuador in South America, are home to some of the world’s most fascinating wildlife and are visited by thousand of tourists each year.

Safari Guide Galapagos contains photographs and descriptions of over 200 species you are likely to encounter on a trip to these remote islands. It is the only wildlife guide you will need.

Although perhaps best known for its Giant Tortoises, many other mammals, reptiles, coastal and marine life, birds, plants and invertebrates are also included.

In addition, there is information on the history of the islands, climate, conservation, the Galapagos National Park and the volcanism of the area.

Having spent several weeks in the last two years travelling in Galapagos,I have bought and seen numerous guide books. This book stands out, combining the "best of the rest" in terms of history/background/climate/geology of the islands with a comprehensive field guide. The photos are informative and of the highest quality, the writing concise yet sufficiently detailed, and the section on the plants and trees is unique amongst the books I have come across. The visitor site maps are easy to read, attractive to look at and extremely useful. If you buy/take along with you only one book,I would make it this one!

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to find out more about the amazingly diverse range of wildlife and plantlife on the Galapagos. The book is small enough to carry around comfortably (it won't take up too much space in your pack!), and is packed full of bright, clear illustrations and detailed descriptions of just about everything that lives and breathes on this incredible archipelago. Congratualtions to the Fitter family for another great addition to their collection.

The Best Galapagos Guide Book 26 Oct 2005
By E. Fortune - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
After 6 trips to the Galapagos with University courses, this is by far my favorite guide book. The information in the book is clear, concise, and accurate. The photographs are excellent. Most important, locating the entries for the plants and animals that you encounter on the hikes is quick and easy. My two favorite Ecuadorian guides in the Galapagos Islands both carry only this book.

the only wildlife book for your trip to the Galapagos 13 July 2004
By R. Burke - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've been to the Galapagos with a few copies of each of the other books available for the trip and a University class of biologists and geologists. Between us we had all the choices, and we all tried all of them. This book was hands-down the favorite of the group. It was the most authoritative, the easiest to use, and the most fun to read. I recommend it to anyone traveling to the Enchanted Islands, along with Beak of the Finch of course, and also Evolution's Workshop.
