saddlebottom is a piglet born to an extremelly stuck-up show-sow. When he is born without the breeds white 'saddle' on his back - even worse (and rather 'cheekily') on his bottom instead - she won't have anything to do with him. Predictably (if you've read other Dick King-smith books), he runs away, has an adventure, and by the end his bottom is actually a source of pride rather than shame (incidentally, the v on the left buttock in the picture is a military rank - just so you know!). It is quite funny, quite clever, and not at all boring. However, it is not as good as some of King-smiths other books - such as babe. If you only read one of his books read that.

After reading this book when I was still in school it bacame a favorite of mine and I still have my original copy. I was suprised when my younger brother told me he wanted a copy as he was reading it at school.
As I said before this book is a classic and for those children that enjoy reading this book is comprehensive and the illustrations say a 1,000 words.
When I have children this will be one of the first books that I will read to them and then let them read it for themselves.

This is THE GREATEST BOOK IN THE WORLD because this book has every thing a kid likes like animals, war, adventure and last but not least friendship. This book is totally absolutely magnificent
