5.0 out of 5 stars weird and wonderful 16 Nov 2004
Format:Audio CD
There are some very weird and wonderful sounds that emit from the mouths, throats and other instruments of the Monks of Sherab Ling. They are all perfect for anyone interested in Meditation, relaxation or contemplation of any kind. The three tracks are an ideal duration for a Meditation session. Stopping to work with each track 3 times a day would be good for de-stressing and slowing down the pace for a while - good for calmer, Karma and Dharma!!! I would definately recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bitter and Beautiful Truth 19 July 2009
By The Wolf TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Originally located in Kham in Eastern Tibet The Sherab Ling monastery
today stands in the Kangra Valley not too distant to Dharamshala, home
to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile.

It would not be there of course had China not invaded Tibet in 1950,
systematically destroying a proud and gentle people and their rich
and innately peaceful indigenous heritage.

The Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism, too, has not been without its
internal political wrangles also. There has been a fierce dispute about
the rightful leader of this sect since the death of the sixteenth Karmapa
(spiritual head) Rangjung Rigpe Dorje in 1981.

It is a story riddled with deception, intrigue and shameful misdeeds.
( See : 'Buddah's Not Smiling : Uncovering The Heart Of Tibetan Buddhism Today',
Erik D. Curren - Alaya Press 2005 ).

That the monastery has survived in its current incarnation is
reason to be thankful of course. Picking up the ragged remains
of a brutally decimated spiritual culture and rebuilding it in
a foreign (and not entirely hospitable land) bares witness
to the bravery and stoic determination of its caretakers.

This album is a curiosity in many ways; not least because of its Grammy win
for Best Traditional World Music Album at the 46th annual awards in 2004.

This once almost hermetically private music has now found a place on the
world stage and perhaps the world becomes a tiny bit better because of it.

The musical language will be strange and unfamiliar to unaccustomed ears.

The three pieces in this recording give a small but vivid insight into a world
where dedication to spiritual progress is paramount.

5.0 out of 5 stars authentic 7 April 2008
Format:Audio CD
When I play this CD I am transported back to the Himalayan foothills where I listened to monks chanting every morning in the temple up the mountain. The Tibetans are a very special people and the memories stirred by this CD are of the peace, happiness and spirituality I felt during my time living near them.
I then realised I slept in Sherab Ling Monastry one night, on the roof with a group of friends - we were visiting to do Puja for a birthday. So this has been a happy purchase for me - do visit the monastry in Kangra if you are out that way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Chant 13 July 2009
By Sonic
Format:Audio CD
With all the 'chant' albums that are out there it good to see one that presents just the orignal with no added annoying soundtracks for western ears. The quailty is good capturing the raw sound even the odd cough which adds overall atmosphere. This is a great album for relaxing with possibly the only exception is in the first part of track 2 when horns and other instruments are played loud but by then im normally in a good relaxed mood subconsciously smiling.

5.0 out of 5 stars AUM+ 21 Nov 2011

What a beautiful feeling...
The chants seem to awaken some essence within, a chakra thing?
It is truly awe-inspiring, and penetrating, and there is no disappointments as the three chants are equally good.
At times it rocks with bass drum and horn and symbol, and I cannot think presently of better sounds to obsess to, it is quite catchy at times and is within me now, hooray!
10/10

4.0 out of 5 stars Authentic but could be more varied 7 Nov 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The Three Chants are mindblowing in both their complexity and the aura of spirituality they invoke. In some ways this is probably one of the best chant CD's because it is pure chant with no added extra's or western additions.
However I think it would be better if there was a larger selection but a shorter play time, the chants are interesting but I would have liked a bit more variety.
