I have always enjoyed Christopher Howse's articles in the "Telegraph" & have often cut them out & then lost them after they had floated around the house for a week or so. It was a delight to find many of them neatly bound and making no more demand than to be read. They do demand to be read, with pleasure & delight. Mr. Howse has an engaging style & he wears his scholarship lightly. I have been informed, entertained & challenged & I have to be disciplined not to read too many at once! This is a book that will live at the side of my bed to be revisited frequently. It may also occupy a similar place in the homes of several friends as I often recomend it. Thank you Mr. Howse.
