Product Description
Torn between sexual desire, her vows of chastity and her fears of eternal damnation, a medieval nun struggles with her sanity. Bordering on madness, she seeks solace in the savage words of sexual denial that are spoken to her by a disturbing Death Nun vision. Her sanity is further threatened by the imagined figure of Magdalen, who challenges her concepts of sex as an evil, malignant force. In between these discussions the nuns mind is filled with brooding, violent sexual fantasies that push her into a world of blackness, blood and orgasmic self destruction.
Sacred Flesh has continued to provoke controversy since its original theatrical release in 2000 and has regularly featured in the press and in tv documentaries where the clips of lesbian whippings and crucified orgies still shock.

I was persuaded to buy this because it seemed from the synopsis to be an imaginative study of the role of sex in religion and because of the first review stating that it was "art." Neither is the case.
The script and plot - inasmuch as one exists at all - could have been written by a not particularly gifted but very frustrated 14 year old. I was expecting the fantasy sequences to be something along the lines of Ken Russell but they are more like an uninspired Halloween party attended by crypto-fundamentalist Christians.
The women are beautiful and nudity extensive, including shots of their vulva on occasions.
I give it 2 stars because the acting is so bad as to be comical - Simon Hill's being particularly amusing.
Only buy this if you like lesbian porn with a few religious trappings.

for those of us who were hoping to see lots of nuns getting out of the habit (know what I mean!)i was very dissapointed. Too much philosophical talk between the mother superior trying to justify her chastity, and less action. Even once they do get down to the nitty gritty, its soft core and dissapointing. "Be gone with you.....!"

This film made in 2000 and written and directed by Nigel Wingrove is visually stunning. A Mother Superior is fighting with herself over her vow of chastity.
With visions of a skeletal nun and Mary Magdalene she slowly starts to lose her sanity. Scared of breaking her vows and thus being forever damned we are led on a surreal journey through her mind by way of visions and recollections.
I must admit that I was surprised as I didn't expect to see so much graphic nudity. There is a nun masturbating, nuns having lesbian sex, a nun being tied to a cross and pleasured by other nuns, along with a nun being licked and caressed by two priests. Along with all this is a naked woman crucified and wearing a crown of thorns, flagellation and self-flagellation. Blasphemy perhaps, sensual most definitely. This is not your usual nunsploitation movie and transcends the genre, becoming art. This is without doubt one of the most erotic films I have seen in a long time. Controversial this may be but it is still a feast for the eyes. If you only see one nunsploitation film this must be it.
