The Sabrent Premium 4 Port Aluminum USB 2.0 Hub allows you to have 4 USB ports from just one on your device. (thanks to the Leveller for correcting my numerical error)
It is very similar to other Sabrent products in performance the only difference is the design. I really like this one in particular.
The slots face upwards and the whole unit has spiral roundels on the ends.
The one to the right is where the fixed cable is connected.
This is a neat addition to the design that just finishes the design off well.
The designer should be given praise because they have gone to a lot of trouble to produce a really good looking device.

I say device but the Sabrent premium is first foremost designed to match the sleek white lines of Apple Products.
I need to add that as it it is a USB2.00 then it is not as fast as a USB.3 (again thanks to the Leveller for drawing my attention to this fact)

That will be its major selling point.
(It does work well though and does the job it is designed to do)

But all said and done it does really look the part.
It is sleek, compact, wonderfully designed.

The device is made from brushed aluminium but has a strange non slip and the feel of it is really hard to describe.
It stays put on your desk which is good.

I found that although small the slots were wide enough to get 4 USB devices in well.
They all face the same way so this makes your desktop easier to arrange and a lot smarter- unlike the cheaper 4 compass point pointing 4 hub devices..
Whats more you can actually see which way up the slots are- I always seem to have to turn the cables around before I slot them in.
The fit is excellent BTW.

I received one of these direct from the company to try out. They have not asked for or suggested that I write a favourable review, they have left me to write what I want good or bad.

The hub is very stylish and looks like something made by Apple. It is a solid little block that looks and feels robust. The ports sit at a jaunty angle and looks really neat when sat on the desk. There is a short cable length, but this is ample for Mac books that are sat on the desk and the shorter length reduces power loss. Underneath is a ruberised base that can help prevent slip, but the unit itself is quite light so the foot is not particularly effective. That being said, it isn't something that is likely to slide around on a desk anyway.

I tried this out on a Windows PC first, just because it happened to be running at the time. I plugged it into a USB 3.0 extension lead running to the back of the computer. I wasn't expecting this to work as un-powered hubs tend to fail when attached to longer extensions, but this worked fine. I wouldn't like to say if this would work on all leads or USB2.0 extensions. It was detected and Windows recognised all 4 USB pen drives I had mounted. I was able to read and write to all of them. I was also able to charge the power hungry iPhone.

I then migrated over to a MacBook Pro. Again, all pen drives were detected and were accessible and the iPhone was able to charge and sync with iTunes, but not when the other ports were populated. I was not able to power up an external 2.5" hard disk drive. However, I wasn't expecting the drive to work.

I must disclose that I was offered this product by the manufacturer in exchange for an unbiased review.

EDITED REVIEW

I had previously given a negative review to this product as it didn't work at all with my 2008 iMac. However, the manufacturer contacted me and provided me with a replacement hub, as they suspected the one I had was faulty.

I am therefore very glad to report that the new hub now works perfectly! I tested it with the following items:

- iPod Nano (2nd Gen): the iPod charged and synched ok.

- Printer (HP, 2011) - worked - printed ok

- Apple Mighty Mouse - worked

- iPod Shuffle (2nd generation) - worked/synched

- iPhone 5s - worked absolutely fine too - despite the fact that the lead is designed for USB3.

So all in all, I am now very satisfied with this hub. The design is very reminiscent of Apple branded products in brushed chrome. In fact, it's very similar to the Apple trackpad in terms of that kind of 'wave'-like shape. It sits flat on the desk and doesn't get in the way. The main lead is very thin and flexible.

I would now definitely recommend this hub to anyone using machines with USB 2.0 ports. You can never, EVER have too many USB ports!

This thing looks good with apple products.

I got a MAC, a silver hard drive and device holder. This suited my desk well, and does the job.

I can connect my printer, usb, phone charger, and speakers all at the same time now.
