I bought this easycap unit to replace a more expensive one i bought recently that didn't seem to be compatible with the Golden Videos software i wanted to use to capture vhs tape to my 32bit vista laptop - and it turned out to be a very good impulse buy - the drivers installed first time, and once connected via rca composite cable to the vcr i immediately got a good quality video and audio signal - no dropped frames, and clear stereo sound capture...

The instructions warned me to install the drivers FIRST - by putting the disc in the drive, and clicking the 'install drivers' option, and to only insert the easycap into the usb socket AFTER this was achieved - windows found the composite, and audio interface drivers in it's own memory, but i had to open the disc drive, and reinsert the disc when prompted, to let windows search for the 'video capture controller' driver, which it found on the disc, and installed in a few seconds - and success! - good picture, good sound, and using NCH Golden Videos freeware rather than the complicated ulead software that comes with the easycap, i began to transfer my collection of vhs movies and shows to the laptop...

great value, great results, and as the name says, EASY to use - 5/5

I was beginning to think I'd have to spend a lot of money on a dvd recorder but this little gadget has converted 9 full tapes to digital from my old analogue camcorder and I've burned the movies to dvd. What's more, the quality is every bit as good as on the tapes. A tip: make sure the audio input is set to USB and not "Line In".

I bought it based on Amazon reviews, and it came bundled with a SCART adaptor to go in the VCR Scart Adapter Switchable Plug to Socket for silly money. Installation was dead easy but didn't bother with the video editing software as other reviewers found the likes of Windows Movie Maker better. Plug the bits in, connect the two with an RCA plug-to-plug cable and launch! The rest is down to your video editing skills.

I have tried this on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and it does work but you need to follow this way instead of following the instructions. (This step by step is only for Windows 7. Windows XP users can follow the instructions. Not sure about Windows Vista sorry.)
1. Put disc in
2. Plug it in (even though the instruction say don't but ignore the instruction)
3. Wait for it to search drivers. It will successfully find sound driver not the video card.
4. Go to "Drivers" folder on the disc
5. Click "Setup" (make sure it is still plugged in)
6. When it is finish it now found video driver
7. That it! You are all done. For software I recommended NCH Golden Videos because the software on the disc is old.
You can use VLC for full screen e.g. playing game consoles. To do this open VLC and click on "Media" and click on "Open Capture Device". For Video device click on USB 2.0 Grabber and for sound device click on Microphone (USB Audio Interface) and click play! This is useful for people who just want to watch it live and not record anything. Plus this is the only program I can find that let you watch it live full screen.

Overall I think this is very good and the quality is good but the sound is a bit crackly but for cheap price it is ok and you could overcome that by connecting the audio to line in using different cable. It will be easy for people with bit of computer knowledge to manually install drivers. The disc is messy and I don't mean physical mess on the disc I meant folders everywhere and in different place. The disc includes TWO software and they are Unlead software and the other one is called Honestech VHS to DVD. If you want Honestech then it on the root directory of the disc but if you want Unlead then you have to click on a folder called "AP2" which seems weird. I have choose four star because it is a good product but the disc need sorting out to stop confusing people.

This device simply does not work with Windows 7 - the driver is not recognised and hence it is useless for this operating system. Looking on the internet after the event unfortunately, it appears others have had the same problem - really this should be flagged up in the advert - I know it is a Windows 7 problem not the device that is at fault but it is only right that attention is brought to this.

Bought this with a little concern on how it would perform - drivers installed no bother - installed the supplied Ulead software - connected to my 15 year video recorder - and transferred the video with no fuss into .mpg format after a bit of fiddling with the Ulead settings - burned to dvd and job done - highly recommend this product is purchased with the switchable i/o scart - for the price an excellent purchase

Hope this is of some use to fellow buyers

I bought this because I wanted to record from my xbox 360 to pc but didn't do too much research beforehand. It turns out that this is only the DC60 model which does not support pal-60 (very necessary to record most xbox games in colour) unlike the DC60+ version which does support pal-60.

the product itself however seems ok. as my sole purpose for buying was to record xbox, i haven't had chance to use it to record from any other device but the general reviews seem to say it is good for that. also, the delivery was quite good, item was shipped out the day after purchase and Royal Mail were kind enough to delivery it the next day.

the main/only issue i had was getting the drivers installed properly but after several hours of googling, the answer was quite simple.
1. Insert the disc that comes with the EasyCap and choose 'Install driver'
2. After that has installed plug the device into your usb port and let the computer do it's PnP installing shizz.
3. If/when it says the driver for 'USB 2.0 Video Capture Controller' was not installed, go to Control Panel-->Device Manager. The video capture controller should have a yellow triangle next to it here.
4. Right click the controller-->Update driver software...-->Browse manually. Go to computer, then choose the CD drive with the disc in and select the folder called Drivers. After pressing Ok, it should install and your EasyCap will be good to go.
