It has a removeable lid and a side handle - the only metal electric kettle I could find with both these assets. Kettles with attached lids make no sense. We all know they shed water which runs down the sides of the kettle when opened. Yet they still keep making them by the zillion. A handle above the opening is another enigma. You have to avoid scalding steam (and sometimes a hot handle) if you need to refill after a boil; tricky to fill too with the handle in the way.

It fits easily onto the base in any position, being the 360 degree swivel variety. It has a genteel lever to switch on - just a light press does it - and it quietly returns to the off position when the water is boiled. It is very pleasing to the eye with its not too bulbous stainless steel body and the water level panel lit up orange while it boils. It has no plastic liner I'm glad to say and (after the two cleaning boils) there is no taste from the metal. It is heavy of course - I've been used to the plastic kettles for some years - but it oozes class. It takes just over 3 minutes to boil 1.5 litres of water and pours without dripping.

Now if only the manufacturers had finished the job...

Its lid is finicky and only fits after much fiddling and the metal inside the kettle rim is sharp. There are 'grooves', which I think are for fingers, in the lower part of the handle but the kettle can only be lifted holding the upper part. The power base is lightweight and the attached heavy cable lifts it up one side; it will only lay flat if positioned just so. It's quite noisy and the sound is harsh and tinny - to be expected, I suppose, being metal.

I can live with these minor problems for when I enter the kitchen and see this beautiful work of art, instead of the plastic monstrosity that it replaced, I am content. I have uploaded some images in case you'd like to compare them.

The last two kettles we have had were the plastic jug type. Both had those awkward to use, pull back catches and the lid always seems to be in the way when filling. Well No 2 stopped working (both died after less than 18 months) and so we went searching for something better and we found it in this product. The lid is easily removed for filling (nothing in the way) so I don't feel as though I'm fighting it every time. The side handle feels right. It pours out well. Boils quickly. Doesn't make much noise when boiling and looks good.

We're very pleased with our purchase.

We like the kettle. It boils quickly and pours well. It has become very noisy during boiling, lots of crackling and loud noises. We are slightly concerned that the on-off lever seems a little delicate and might break off if accidently given a hard knock. Otherwise, very satisfied

UPDATE: After 6 mths it started leaking - and was also going rusty around the lid. (Stainless??)
Amazon's returns service was amazing - well-pleased with their response, even though they had despatched it, but it was "sold" by a 3rd party.
Have just ordered a slightly more expensive Philips kettle - from Amazon, of course!

Nice looking kettle - and works well.
Delivered quickly by Amazon and well-packed.
What more can one ask?
(Must mention that it is noisier than our previous kettle, but probably because that was plastic.)

Worked ok for about 4 months, then started to get really noisy/rattley when boiling, after 6 months started to leak slightly from the base and got even more noisy when on. Eventually had to be returned as leaking very much so that I would find puddle of water on worktop if kettle left with water in overnight, had to be returned, shame as I liked the look/design of this model.

The first year or so with this kettle showed totally acceptable performance; others have written and I've nothing to add. Looks are really spoiled after a year or so though, as the lid to jug join has started rusting. Not enough to abandon the kettle yet, but enough to prevent me replacing like for like when I do.
