Product Description

Product Description

Sean Butterton, naive, and kindly disposed to his fellow man, takes a sabbatical, hoping to save his marriage, and learns more than he wants. The end of the year is just the beginning - and an introduction to a reality that few have time to see while busy with creation of their own. It leads to a radical review of long-cherished beliefs, madness, wild excesses - and murder. This is a book for intelligent adults who are not afraid of challenging ideas and who insist on the right to think for themselves. The novel is a worm's eye view of British society at the bottom. The narrative is blunt and uncompromising, takes a wry, bitter but often humorous look at many absurdities in the way we conduct our affairs and is more illuminating of humanity in its gloomlight descriptives than the clinically bright light of academic studies by Oxbridge social isolates.

Great first novel 11 Dec 2004
By A Customer
I bought this book because the title Sabbatical and the synopsis intrigued me. Some parts made me laugh - others gave me a lump in my throat. I found the emotions portrayed here very real - Ed has a great way with words yet on the other hand I felt he used some obscure ones that might have some people diving to find their dictionaries. Not a book for the uneducated. I hope that Ed Murfin's next book will be a humorous one as I feel that THAT is where his talent really shines.I LOVED it

This book takes you on a journey into the grim, gritty and unpleasant world of life at the bottom end of the human spectrum. Sean has hit rock bottom after married life takes a turn for the worse and he's still heading downwards.
A brutally honest and not at all politically correct (hoorah) story of what people do to each other.
