Biography

Black Sabbath has been so influential in the development of heavy metal rock music as to be a defining force in the style. The group took the blues-rock sound of late '60s acts like Cream, Blue Cheer, and Vanilla Fudge to its logical conclusion, slowing the tempo, accentuating the bass, and emphasizing screaming guitar solos and howled vocals full of lyrics expressing mental anguish and macabre… Read more in Amazon's Black Sabbath Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Good selection of quality songs, enjoyable, 31 Oct 2001
This review is from: The Sabbath Stones: the Irs Years (Audio CD)
"Sabbath Stones" is a collection of Sabbath songs from 80's and 90's.To be exact it has 3 tracks from "headless cross",4 tracks from "TYR" 1 from "dehumanizer" 2 from "cross poursposes" and 3 from "Forbidden".That means that the collection includes 2 decades of sabbath history.Though most of the sabbath fans love only the ozzy period everybody will appreciate the quality of the songs in this collection. It may not be a "collection of sabbath classics" as it says on the CD(sabbath with ozzy would be concidered classic)the selection of the songs though justifies your purchase of this CD.Even if you don't like to think of sabbath as sabbath if Ozzy is not on the vocals, this CD is a very good Black Sabbath history covering 2 decades.Appart from the usual suspects :Iommy, Ward,Butler the songs feature names such as Ian Gillan,Dio,Powell,Hughes and others.Even if you are not a sabbath fan this is a very good hard- rock, heavy metal Collection that you surally going to enjoy featuring heavy riffs and mistiqual melodies

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Of The Albums That Were Amazing In Their Own Way, 17 Jan 2012
This review is from: The Sabbath Stones: the Irs Years (Audio CD)
This best of album has a great selection of sabbath's career from 1983 - 1995 and is a real treat if you like all sabbath between those years

the songs are taken from

Born Again (1983)
Seventh Star (1986)
Eternal Idol (1987)
Headless Cross (1989)
Tyr (1990)
Dehumanizer (1992)
Cross Purposes (1994)
forbidden (1995)

A Great selection of hard rock and heavy metal tracks But you may be thinking, these albums were not well recieved well that because criticts dont have a clue what talent is and this is a great selection of talent all though they should of put better ones in this instead of a bundle of all albums, but dont let this put you off because this is really a great and key part of black sabbaths history and if you like sabbath then you should listen to this and also this CD is a raritie so check it out

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection, 12 Dec 2008

What more can be said about Sabbath? This is a collection of material from the Tony Martin years, some of the most underrated material Sabbath ever did. If you are under budget restaints and can't purchase Idol/Cross/Tyr/Purposes/Forbidden then this disc will get you a good idea of what the original discs are about. Don't sell Tony Martin short he is quite probably one of the best singers of Sabbath material out there. I've seen many shows and have many live discs with Martin on vocals and he does a fantastic job with not only his material, but Ozzy,Dio, and Hughes material as well - he's no prima donna, he sings it all and does it very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Collection, 4 Dec 2010
By George Farris - Published on Amazon.com
The Sabbath Stones is an awesome collection of Sabbath songs with singer Tony Martin, though TV Crimes is sung by Ronnie James Dio. I've always have enjoyed Martin's expressive singing style. The music is heavy as you would expect from Sabbath yet the Martin era does come across in a different way. The CD is very long. Just a bit over 80 minutes. "Loser Gets It All" is an outtake found only on the Japanese version of "Forbidden". My only complaint is the four songs from "Tyr" ("The Sabbath Stones", "The Battle Of Tyr", Odin's Court", and "Valhalla") could easily have been edited as one long piece. Instead when listening to them on random play they sound rather strangely edited. However, on the CD "Tyr" the same thing can be said. I highly recommend this Black Sabbath collection. I listen to mine quite often.
