Product Description

Product Description

Protect your garden habitat with the Defenders Mega-Sonic cat repeller.

There are 9 million cats in the UK. The mammal society says cats kill around 275 million prey items a year, including 55 million birds. Voles and other small mammals make up much of the remainder.

The Sonic Cat Repeller will help protect your garden habitat and encourage wildlife and birds back into it. The Sonic Cat Repeller incorporates a sophisticated PIR (Passive Infra Red) detection system, which constantly monitors a fan shaped area of a 98 degrees arc up to a distance of 12 metres. The protected area is over 120sq. meters of unobstructed space. The Sonic Cat Repeller detects animals moving into this area and triggers a burst of continuously variable ultrasound, which sweeps a frequency range of 18,000Hz, 24,000 Hz to repel them. Simultaneously the LED indicator on the front of unit signals that it is now activated.

The Sonic Cat Repeller is powered by two 9V alkaline batteries. Battery power is conserved by the PIR detection system, which allows the unit to remain on stand-by between activation periods, therefore maximizing battery life.

The Push on/off Test Button on the face of the unit will drop the sonic frequency to an audible range. This enables you to check that the unit is functioning properly and to hear the swept frequency. The unit is also weather resistant.

This product was formerly called the 'Big Cheese Cat Repeller'.

Please note that results may vary and it can take up to 28 days to deliver a full deterrent.

Manufacturer's Description

The STV610 Defenders Mega-sonic Cat Repeller detects and deters cats from lawns, flower-beds and bird feeders. The motion-activated repeller detects animal movement and delivers a continuously variable sonic burst to deter cats without harm. Coverage area is up to 12 metres in a 98 degree arc, creating a protected zone of over 120 square metres. The unit pack also displays directions for use and siting instructions for optimal performance

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked 100% 26 Oct 2007
after spending 65 on various sprays, powders and even lion poo from the zoo I wish Id bought this first.

Worked out of the box.

After 4 months of cats leaving deposits in the garden they no longer come near it.

I watched for about 25 minutes before the first cat dared to invade and I can tell you, its the first time I have seen a cat do a vertical take off from a standing start, only wish i could of videoed it for you-tube.

One problem my neighbours keep popping round to borrow it!

I installed this product 5 weeks ago, after checking with the manufacturer (STV Pest Control) whether the "Cat Repeller" could be expected to work against dogs and foxes. Frankly, I'm not an expert on animal poo, and didn't know what kind of animal was fouling my front garden, typically 5 times per week. They said it should work, and that the more expensive "Cat, Dog & Fox Repeller" simply has a higher power output to cover a larger area.

So does it work? During the 5 weeks since installation I've seen only one cat hang around in my garden for any length of time, and that was on one occasion only. The rest have passed through quickly, at some distance from the device.

In fact, after two weeks I thought the fouling problem was completely solved; but, as one of my kids pointed out, my DOG-owning neighbours were away on holiday. The animal fouled my garden within 12 hours of the neighbours' return 10 days ago, but only once since then -- which is a welcome improvement, if it continues. Perhaps their dog is still learning and will eventually stop visiting altogether. Fingers crossed for now.

Additional comment:

Several reviewers of the Cat Repeller have reported that "their" cats seem happy to settle down near the device. The manufacturers of a similar product (not the one under review) state on their website that this is not unusual behaviour. Apparently these cats are trying to intimidate the device and make it go away. It takes them a while to learn that they can't win the battle... so be patient -- the instructions supplied with the Big Cheese Cat Repeller clearly state that it may take up to 28 days to break the animals' habit in the case of persistent fouling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye cats 19 Mar 2008
Verified Purchase
I have 4 cats that moved next door late last year, i must admit there had never been a problem with cat litter untill recently...
I bagged up nearly half a dustbin liner of the stuff and thought enough is enough...determined to get rid of them i spent a small fortune on jeyes fluid and sprayed all my borders and lawns to no avail..
People told me citruss lemon smells would keep them away another
20 in chemicals only minimised the situation..more money spent on deterrent gels which i placed all around my rear garden they attacked my front garden..so i covered the front garden they deffacated all over my rear lawns...
I'm not a cat lover and i wouldn't harm them but found myself screaming at them when they were bouncing on my 4 year old daughters huge trampoline and messing next to it..
The big cheese has totally stopped them even walking on my garden..
Ive had one soiling in a week since placing them on my garden and i may have missed that when placing them...
I can't praise this product enough don't waste money on gels disinfectants
and time tying bags to trees to scare cats just purchase the big cheese it
has definately made a difference to my garden :)

5.0 out of 5 stars I've got my garden and my life back! 27 Mar 2008
By Ange
I've worked hard to afford MY house with MY garden so I can grow MY own vegetable and plants but have had years of distress fending off OTHER peoples cats fouling around my property. Being partially disabled, I can't do many activities so pottering around my garden is very important to me, both mentally and physically. But the constant stream of cat poo was driving me insane - with numerous neighbours pet cats plus ferral ones breeding furiously in the nearby parkland (irrisponsable cat owners failing to get their pets neutered - that's another story!) they used my garden as a litter tray regardless of all the repellents and guards I spents hundreds of pounds on. They wouldn't even 'dig it in' but left it lying for all to find, on plants, on the lawn, on the patio....even on the chicken wire I'd covered my vegatable seedlings with. But the last straw was walking out to witness a cat squatting off the edge of my shed roof, defecating down onto the ground below! In the summer it stank, on dark nights you had to take a torch out in case you trod in one of their 'little presents' - my visiting young relatives wouldn't play out in the garden and in the end I gave up growing veggies all together - much of the poo is riddled with mites/worms of some sort I just couldn't risk the health implications. My partner and I were spending more time clearing up cat mess than gardening and becoming obsessed with chasing off the moggies lining up to taunt us with their eyes screaming 'come and have a go if you think your quick enough' (which I clearly am not seeings as I walk with a stick!). Cats, even though we don't own one, were ruling, and ruining our lives! Now I'm actually an animal lover, I have pets and am responsible for looking after and cleaning up after them... Read more ›
