Product Description

The original genealogical crime mystery.

2005: Eking out a meagre existence on rugged Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, England, Ewan Hurd had only vague memories of a loveless childhood spent in a succession of childrens’ homes.
A private, introspective man, he had come to rueful terms with his lack of known family. Until a letter arrives with an urgent summons from a stranger, to join him in Essex, with a promise of startling revelations into his origins.
An unknown twin brother has traced their family’s genealogy; research which eventualy reveals that for generations powerful forces have strived in a murderous campaign to eradicate their blood-line.
As events unfold, Ewan the eldest son of an eldest son and last of his line, discovers that this threat is very much on-going after three hundred years. How the dark side of his family history has long suffered under the shadow of Newgate Goal and Tyburn’s Triple Tree of death; hunted remorselessly by the Thief-Taker.
Accused himself of multiple murders that erupt around him, Ewan finds himself the subject of a massive, nation-wide man-hunt in which the men with guns, and one with a rope noose, will have no mercy when the chase is done.
In London a dramatic, sudden alliance with a beautiful, enigmatic American girl, the ‘Trustee’, gradualy unveils an amazing family tree with roots embedded in both sides of the Atlantic. A dynasty planted in the early 18thC by his mysterious ancestor, ‘Jack’, foot-pad and petty thief, condemned to hang at Tyburn for theft of the ‘Watch of Succession’, the catalyst for the family’s long persecution. But then ‘Jack’ was the celebrated ‘Escapee’.
Only in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA, will Ewan find the mind boggling answers to momentous secrets, finally blessing him with peace of mind and soul….If he survives that long.

About the Author

I hail from the UK but currently live on the Algarve, Portugal, seduced by hot sunshine and long golden beaches. It's a hard life but somebody has to do it ! Originaly from Essex, I moved from the London suburbs to further along the Thames estuary then on to a remote little village on the east coast in an old, haunted farmhouse. On an impulse our next home was on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, a location which is as inspirational for any writer as you could hope for. I have had even more occupations than I have had homes, (good material for a writer): a law agency researcher, high-rise painter, Fireman, faux paint-effects specialist to name a few - oh and author of course. Along the way I have encountered some interesting characters and situations; a rich fund of material which I invariably incorporate into my stories. Currently I have three other titles available. http://www.amazon.co.uk/KILLER-BLOOD-ebook/dp/B0070PIR3U http://www.amazon.co.uk/BAND-BEGINS-TO-PLAY-ebook/dp/B004RZI074 http://www.amazon.co.uk/TRIPLE-TAP-ebook/dp/B004Q7CK1K Enjoy ! Another gripping book by author R.Jay. The storyline is full of mystery to the end and has many very interesting historical facts. (But as the Author's Note says, aimed
to incorporate broad historical fact in the interest of fictitious expediency.)
I found this mix of fact & fiction so enthralling that I finished reading this book in two days, this alone tells all, a must read, very well done R.Jay.

This is another excellent book by the author R.Jay that has the reader hooked from the beginning, finding out where all the intrigue and mystery will take you to. The historical facts are very well researched and intertwined into a storyline which you will want to keep reading. I loved all the descriptions of Essex and Cornwall, both of which I am familiar with and learned some of the history of America of which I was shamefully ignorant. From the start you will find yourself having a lot of empathy for the main character and others who try to help him. May I say to all the scriptwriters out there looking for a cracking story, that this would make a very good TV drama.

Based on Historical characters that actually lived, written on a theme that geneologists would like.
A thoroughly good read, that you dont want to put down, and makes you think could the storyline really be possible.
