Product Description

Tortured, and brutally murdered, the bodies of the Richardsons hang from a tree deep in the forests of the Blue Mountains

Australia in 2067, an oasis in a world which has barely survived climate change, terrorism and food wars. The Richardsons’ deaths are just two of several brutal murders to be unearthed. With local police stymied, former Scotland Yard Commander, Nicholas Adams and his team, are called in. But even with the extensive surveillance of central computer BigSys and the pervasive eyes of cameras that cover so much of the country, it takes the skills of the attractive Verity Burne – computer wizard and freelance feature writer – to uncover the links between the homicides that lead to the discovery of past injustices and a thirst for bloody vengeance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Futuristic and Fantastic 11 Feb 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
You have to be a certain kind of writer to be able to write a credible and worthy novel set in the future. You have to be a writer who is accomplished and confident in her writing, plotting and characterisation. But above Ms Marlowe is a fantastic story teller and it is so refreshing to find one amongst the well structured, plot driven, stylised, perfectly proof read blandies that flood the market. The crimes are pretty horrific and Ms Marlowe does not shy from any gore splattered, intestine glistening imagery. But there is a poetry here. A whisper of something quite unusual but done extremely well. The police proceedural descriptions were absolutely bang on. There is no whiff of pretence. You can actually visualise yourself infront of the watch gadgets and futuristic techie stuff wishing you also had one. However, I will never look at a fig tree in quite the same way again. Very well done. Looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent writing and good plot 8 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Antonia Marlowe's STRANGE BODIES is a tour de force of great writing: a superbly crafted plot, brilliant characters and one of those stories that you can't wait to read to the end of, and then regret that you've finished it. I will certainly read more by Marlowe in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Futuristic that is not... 2 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What I really liked about this story was that it did not read futuristic at all. It's a crime story set in the future yet features believeable characters going about their lives in a way we can, in 2014, relate to. Yes there are the computer advancements that I can envisage being part of our lives in the future and some terrible consequences to the world that we are seeing now! My only surpise came with the age of Nick, I read him to be a lot older than he was, perhaps his speach or mannerisms made him feel a lot older. I liked the dialogue style. Antonia writes as her characters speak, there is no tailoring to suit the reader or what would be technically correct and I liked that. It gave a feeling of reality to the script. This is a good old fashioned crime story with a bit of romance thrown in, an ejoyable read and yes, there are a couple of errors, some misplaced or repeated words but that will not detract from your enjoyment of the story. For an indie author this is a well written debut novel and I look forward to more from Antonia.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Strange Bodies by Antonia Marlowe is a masterfully crafted thriller which captivated me from page one.
The story is told from the perspective of a myriad of fascinating and totally believable characters. The scenes are vividly painted, From my first glimpse of the prologue, i was immersed and unable to put it down until I had read the entire book.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read and cannot recommend it highly enough to fans of the crime thriller genre.
5 well deserved stars awarded.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Crafted 9 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Antonia Marlowe clearly has a gift for bringing a story to life. Set in the Australia of a not too distant future, we are thrust straight into this murder mystery with vivid descriptions of the discovery of the latest bodies, victims of a serial killer. Ms. Marlowe's skillful weaving of the tale and her true-to-life characters kept this reader on the edge of her seat right up to the dramatic conclusion. As well as a highly original plot, Strange Bodies is bursting at the seams with beautifully crafted prose and a subtle, but heartfelt eco-message about the possible effects of technological advances on the world as we know it.

A book to be enjoyed and appreciated on many levels.

If you want a thriller that is different and definately left of centre this could be it.Set in a futuristic Australia, the author definately thinks outside the box, and I thought it was great, plenty of reference to amazing technology and a very different future world, alongside a series of horrifying murders, and some interesting characters what more could you want?

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling and entertaining. 18 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a lot to like in this novel. There are several brutal murders; there is lots of lovely glamour, feisty females and hunky detectives and so of course there is romance and hanky panky. There is also a very clever and intricate plot. Though Strange Bodies is set in the future it is a very accessible future. There are no blokes called Zorg - though admittedly there is one called Jet, but it is a nick name so we can allow that. The deterioration of the civilized world and indeed the developing world are very believable as is the re-organisation of society as a result of climate change etc. The gadgetry and electronic wizardry are perfectly logical and in fact I did find myself lusting after much of it.

I was enthralled by this and the end was totally satisfying. I think this would make a great film, if only so that we could see some of the locations and electronic toys in real life as it were and I will definitely read more by this author.
