If you don't have a diffuser get this. I've had a 580ex a while and just used bounce with odd bits of card occasionally. Once I bought this images are improved dramatically and it's not as imposing as other diffusers that you can buy. My only problem is it doesn't store well (as it adds an inch to your flash's length).

If you want something grander like the lightsphere etc, then fair enough, but for my needs of something a little subtler (OK an SLR and flash aren't too subtle, but every little helps), this was perfect.

I'd also recommend you buy at least a CTO (orange) gel for a better effect in incandecent light.

What can I say about this simple piece of opaque plastic? It improves on camera flash greatly. I tried a few photo's without the difuser using bounce flash to get softer shadows. With this difuser attached my Canon EOS 40 and 580 flash the results improved ten fold.

I won't be taking any flash photos without this piece of kit attached.
Buy it, you won't be dissapointed.

I agree it fits hardly to my 580ex II.
+ too pricey for just a bit of plastic

I do not rate this item at all. I was expecting marvellous things from it at this price, but sadly no. it is way to tight and scratched my Canon Flashgun straight away. There is rough casting to the edge and only comes in a plastic bag which offers no protection at at. I purchased another one for 1/5 if the price and is 10 times better made and fits superbly. I am really Happy changed no question. Be warned its rubbish.

I have both the original 580Ex and the 580ExII. On the 580EX the fit is perfect such that the wider diameter part of the Stofen completetly slides onto the flash head with next to no effort. However on the 580EXII I'd say that only 30-40% (5mm) of the wider part fits on. That just enough to hold the Stofen on securely without any risk of accidental removal, however it does takes a little more time and fair amount of elbow grease to place and remove. I guess that if they made it large enough for the mark II then it would fall off the mark I.

A lot of people have mentioned this diffuser is "too tight" to fit on the 580 EX II. It is quite tight, but that doesn't last. After putting it on and taking it off a few times it must stretch slightly - mine is now a firm fit but I do not have to struggle to get it on any more.

The diffuser does exactly what it is supposed to, although sometimes I still need to dial back the flash gun's power a bit especially when snapping highly reflective subjects up close. I do much prefer to bounce flash off the ceiling and walls (this is where the 580's big guide number comes in handy) but for those situations where that's not possible or won't give even light coverage, the OM-EY is quick, easy, and convenient to use.

If you are buying a diffuser for the Speedlite 430EX or 430EX II, it won't fit. You need this one instead.

Spreads light very well and since I've attached it to my Canon flash I've never had to take it off. Harsh shadows are eliminated and I am very pleased with this product. The price however lets it down after all it's only a piece of moulded plastic, must be made of some priceless compound. Thought it might have came in it's own gold lined bag and not the cheap plastic one it came in. Stofen must be raking it in at this price!

Simply doesn't fit the mark II version of the 580EX (without a fight). Way too small.
