This book is a bare-bones listing of places, and is very difficult to navigate. Precious little in the way of descriptions, and certainly neither the inspiration nor the information Samantha (and most people) would want. This is an exception to the usually high standards of Collins guides (of which I have quite a few), which probably explains why it has gone out of print. A good choice instead is "The Wee Guide to Scotland: A Concise History with 1250 Heritage Sites to Visit"; see this title within amazon.co.uk for a spot-on review.

I can't really recommend this book as a snappy little number for people who are looking for 'stuff' to do all over Scotland. I was expecting a neat little guide book that would give me inspiration for all the different areas I would be visiting, however, I found it's content very fiddly to deal with. You needed to know exactly what you were looking for and the maps were fairly inaccurate and not detailed enough. Good if you need a basic, leave-in-the-car-guide, but if you are looking for a trendy pocket guide I'd give it a miss!
