Product Description

Product Description

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 dramatically reduces the time required to bring the most powerful e-commerce, data warehousing, and line-of-business applications to market. "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reference Library" provides the ideal set of reference materials for programming SQL Server applications -- direct from the SQL Server development group. This well-conceived, completely indexed series of volumes sensibly organizes and condenses the vast sea of available SQL Server technical reference information. It contains the printed documentation for SQL Server 2000 along with added-value features such as expert information, tips on how to improve performance, a comprehensive glossary of SQL terms, and a complete keyword index. The six volumes in the library include SQL Server 2000 Architecture and XML/lnternet Support, Analysis Services (OLAP), Database Deployment and Data Services Guide, Replication and English Query, T-SQL Language Reference, and T-SQL Stored Procedures and Tables Reference.

Great set of books. A must have for any dba or vb developer who is trying to get the most out of the functionality of SQL Server 2000. The set contrains the virtually the complete reference for SQL server. It really use full to find out how to do so some of the tricky things to the SQL DMO objects via languages like c++ or vb. It takes you through SQL 2000, easily not too heavy reading. The books cover all you will need to know. For example one book completely for how to use the transact SQL queries. The XML/Internet support shows how you could make the most out of SQL server to do most of you Web sites data. Also covers things like: Analysis Services (OLAP), - The best way of producing your new applications - Use OLAP T-SQL Language Reference, SQL Server 2000 Architecture and XML Internet Support, Replication and English Query, Database Deployment and Data Services Guide, and T-SQL Stored Procedures and Tables Reference. The reference system is virually the same as the online help. But boy, isnt it better to have a hard copy to look at. Especially if you are new to SQL Server 2000. The set also shows the differences between SQL Server 2000 and the pervious versions of SQL Server eg 6.5 and 7

Books on Paper 10 April 2003

If you want a book to teach you how to write or use SQL in any way this is not for you; if you need to know the precise options available on sp_ whatever this is the book. Its books online on paper; great when you need a reference. The attached DVD comes with impressive tutorials, but its the books that counts. Oh and for the inner geek they look great on your desk !

It is definitely heavy 22 Aug 2001

This bookshelf reference is an edited subset of content that can be found in the MSDN reference. The books are thorough, but lack good organization. In fact, in some of the books there is no index! I found these books to be pretty useless, and I've tried to return to them many times to justify the purchase and shelf space. They make a terrible reference (because of the lack of index) and only a mediocre tutorial. This COULD have been a great collection... if only it had been better organized and indexed in a more useful way.

Don't bother 24 Nov 2003

I have found many reasons that I wish I had not bought these books. Here are a few: 1) The entire six volume series is written by the same guy who wrote Books Online. In fact, the explanations are identical word for word, so if something is not clear in BOL, these books will do nothing to provide more insight; 2) BOL contains lots more than do these books. To quote the introduction (page 1), "All told, there was about three times as much [BOL] material as there was room in the SQL Server 2000 Reference Library". So the books are an abridged copy of BOL; 3) The books do not appear to include the September 2001 update; 4) The index does not include page numbers, just volume and chapter; 5) The page header on all 1000+ pages of the T-SQL Language Reference says "T-SQL Language Reference" so it's nearly impossible to locate anything and it's useless as a desk reference; 6) It contains the same "Related Topic" links as BOL, but of course you can't click to get there and the index only tells you what chapter to look in. So save your money, or invest it in three or four useful references.

This book is more than reference, it helped me to understand everything what I needed and to resolve all the problems that I had have on SQL server 2000 (it is not for dummies). Very good organized (reed how to use this book carefully). DVD included inside the book, it is vary helpful. You can install the MSDN 2000 in your computer and if you have time you can watch and listen around 60 hours movies of discourses about MSDN 2000.
I was using different books reading on Replication Chapter but when I bought this book I understood almost every thing about Replication, it has 336 pages to reed and 3 hours movies discussion just for replication.

This book is must have for them who gonna work with SQL server.
