You might be wondering what exactly is in the developers edition. Well essentially, it's the full thing with an EULA that states you can't use it for production.
SQL Server is the greatest database for it's price on the market. Period. Every SME would do well to give this product some consideration. All I can advise is buy this developer pack in junction with Visual C# .NET and ask your boss for some time to experiment with the products.
If after a month you can't find 20 reasons why your existing business process wouldn't benefit from being implemented in SQL server/C# .NET then I'd gladly eat my hat.
SQL server is the best grand you'll ever spend.
