Book Description

18 Dec 1998
This all-new book is the latest work by two of the foremost authorities of historic silver and has evolved from their highly respected earlier books on identifying spoons. Thousands of practical and specialized spoons from all parts of the world are described here. Besides hundreds of clear photographs with captions and extensive text, old manufacturers' catalog pages are included, documenting the makers, dates, names and styles of special spoons so that identification is possible. The 16-page color section presents spoons with colored enamel decoration, gold bowls, and intricate detail which make a lively display. The extensive bibliography and index will aid serious researchers, and spoon collectors, dealers, and appraisers will find this an essential reference to replace all others. A price guide is included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stirring Things Up! 12 April 2008
By Stan
Spoons are fascinating items and not after all just something to help you eat your food or mix sugar into your tea. This is brought home with this exquisite study of this deceptively ordinary, almost dreary item which the smart pundit is now tipping to become the next big thing and is only now getting the justice it so richly deserves. Spoons appear almost as human as us with their varieties and foibles and my feelings for them have been changed for ever by this book. I will never have the same relation with a spoon again. If you are keen to start filling the void in your life with spoons, and meet new friends as a consequence, what better place to start than here? People will flock to your house to look at your cutlery drawer for hours and hours. I can throughly recommend this book, in conjunction with Philip M. Parker's
"The 2007-2012 World Outlook for Precious Metal and Pewter Knives, Forks, Spoons, Carving Sets, and Other Flatware and Cutlery Made Wholly of Metal" for a really firm base on which to comence your spoon collecting. Parker has written many, many books about cutlery but this one is the best overall. Recommended and happy collecting!

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable reference book 11 July 2012
By D. H. Pugh - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
"Spoons from Around the World" is a very valuable reference book. Although written in 1992 the book is timeless. The book describes the development and (social) history of spoons as well as some very good examples (with photographs). Shop around, as this book is often offered for US $ 50+. We paid US $ 9.00 as a discontinued library book.

Invaluable to spoon collectors and very informative for those interested in collecting in general.
