This is a terrific Osprey series volume dedicated to the SPAD VII aircraft and the aces that flew it. It's author, Jon Guttman, is regarded by many as one of the premier aviation historians. He presents a wealth of information on the aircraft's development and manufacture as well as the biographical and statistical details of the ace pilots. The Osprey books are well researched and supported with appropriate photos, artwork and drawings. This book is a handy reference to acquire for one's World War One aviation library. Jon Guttman also presents the SPAD XII and SPAD XIII in yet another Osprey title.SPAD XII/XIII Aces of World War 1 (Aircraft of the Aces) You may also wish to consider this Squadron Signals Publication: Spad Fighters in action - Aircraft No. 93. Also, The Osprey Publishing Duel series has SPAD VII vs Albatros D III: 1917-18 (Duel). which may be of interest.
HASH(0x9c48015c) out of 5 stars Print Issue? 14 May 2013

Book arrived as on time and in excellent shape. However, the pages which should have had the detailed scale line drawings were completely BLACK with a tiny white border; this is a printing problem not generally associated with Osprey Publishing. Otherwise a fine addition to my collection.

Concise discussion of the aircraft and its users. A handy overview (as Osprey books are) but worth the money. Recommended if bookshelf space is at a premium.

Well researched, carefully written, excellent photos and drawings! I used this book for reseach for an upcoming book on "Baloon Buster" Frank Luke.
