Product Description

Product Description

The pop group Mankind took the UK charts by storm and surprise in 1978 when they suddenly came from nowhere during the 15th-anniversary year of Doctor Who to smash into the Top 30 with their disco rendition of the cult BBC TV programme s theme music. Now a special album showcasing all of Mankind s recordings as well as a brand new Space Time 2013 remix by Dos Amigoz is being released to mark the programme s 50th anniversary. The Vinyl version is a super de-luxe limited edition 180 gm clear Blue Vinyl LP package in a gatefold sleeve featuring ultra rare images from the first ever Doctor Who convention in Hollywood in 1979 and a free poster used to advertise the convention. The CD is a 6 panel de luxe CD edition with the same beautiful art.The lead track, DR Who? 2013 features additional remix and production from Dos Amigoz ( Night Moves,Njoi) and lead vocal by Diane Charlemagne (Moby, Urban Cookie Collective)

3.0 out of 5 stars Doctoring The Vinyl 1 Dec 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album contains Mankind's entire back catalogue of 3 singles (A-sides and B-sides) with the choice of 12" (Club) or 7" (Radio) edits. They are transferred from 'rare pristine vinyl' due to the loss of the master tapes in a fire.
Although they sound like vinyl, the quality is very good, and it's nice to have them all collected on one disc.

These original tracks are bookended by a Dr.Who 'Cosmic Remix' plus a new (2013) vocal track seemingly unrelated to Mankind.

I would only recommend this CD for fans of Mankind, or collectors of Dr.Who memorabilia.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't electrify me 26 Nov 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
It's an acquired taste and really only for a fan of 70's electrofunk. The Dr Who theme only features on Four tracks and to my untrained ear, all sound the same.

If you have fond memories of this album or if you like this sort of 70's music (it got into the 1978 charts and was featured on TOP OF THE POPS) then by all means pick up this update but to call it WHO related is a disservice.

I'm not sure I would even recommend it for the curious.

Not my cup of tea.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Space Time And Beyond 14 April 2014

What we have here is the complete output by one-hit wonder group Mankind who had a hit with Doctor Who in December 1978, using old vinyl records, as the studio masters of all these tracks were destroyed in a fire. Considering this CD is produced using old vinyl recordings, it is digitally re-mastered very well.
