They're back!!!! 30 Mar 2006
Format:Audio CD
At last, an album of note from Saves The Day. Following the poor album sales, and in my opinion (not others!) In Reverie lacked the punch that we came to expect from the usual fantastic band that is Saves The Day, and I think this is the best album since Through Being Cool. So onto the songs;

1. Head For The Hills - Great opening song, catchy chorus and you know from here on in, its going to be a fun ride. 4/5.
2. The End - First single off the new album, fast opening, then near the end slows down, and turns into a completly different song! Great lyrics, and i love the part where the bass takes over with the little harmonies in the background. 4/5.
3. Shattered - A song that you would never normally think Saves The Day would do, kicking bass, not the best song on the album but another good listen. 4/5.
4. Eulogy - A song you could quite easily find on In Reverie, but its pretty good, another catchy chorus. 4/5.
5. Dying Day - Not too keen on this, its an album filler more than anything else. 3/5.
6. 34 - Hard hitting riff, a slower rocky Saves The Day song. 3/5.
7. Say You'll Never Leave - My favourite on the album, fast hard hitting, and at last you realise Saves The Day are back! The bass fills towards the end of the songs are mesmorising. 5/5.
8. Diseased - Catchy riff, love Chris' vocal range on this song too. 5/5.
9. Dont Know Why - Excalty! Dont know why this song is on this album it should of been on the last album, not this one! 2/5.
10. Sound The Alarm - How good are the chorus' guitar parts? Not as good as the bridge's though, love the aggresivness of this song. 4/5.
11. Bones - Love this song too, and turns into a crazy fast song at the end. 5/5.
12. Delusional - Again, another brilliant song, love the guitar riffs in it. 5/5.
13. Hell Is Here - A great ending to the album, more aggresive than anything else. 4/5.

Dont be fooled by first listen, it will grow on you, and give it a chance until it gets to song 7, because there on in, you'll get a fun ride.

Buy it.

I bought this album after listening to Stay What You Are, Through Being Cool and Ups and Downs: Early Recordings and B-sides... and I was slightly disappointed, it wasn't as poppy, or melodic, but upon listening to it a few times I began to like the raw edge to it, and lyrically the angst shone through. I think that anyone who listens to this album will like it, if not at first then definately after a few plays. I am really happy I bought it and am in fact humming along to 'shattered' in my head as I type this. Definately buy it, you won't be disappointed!

Getting Better 3 May 2006
Format:Audio CD
After the last album In Reverie I was heart broken. How could a band that I had loved for so long gone and produced something so bad. I suppose bad is the wrong word. I wasn't that bad but just had no substance, no flair and no excitement. I had almost forgotten about STD until their Ups & Downs: Early Recordings and B-Sides came out. After listening to this my love was restored and I went back to their earlier albums rediscovering their genius. Then sound the alarm came along. I was nervous as I opened up the CD. Was this going to be a big let down? Well Chris has done himself proud. The album is gritty with strong lyrics probably from the dark times post In Reverie. Tracks such as 34 and Diseased just leave you wanting more. It has a mixture of classic punk pop action but with something fresh and new. It has harder bass than standard STD and relies on many low undertones with strong driving vocals. This album is definitely a movement into the dark for STD. I think they have succeeded in producing a great album.

The only reason why it hasn't got 5 stars off me is I cant quite get into Chris's voice since he changed his singing style. It also doesn't have the edge of Stay What You Are or Through Being Cool. Give this album the chance it deserves and you will be singing along in no time.
