5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Exceptional noise isolation 3 Mar 2012

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
These high quality headphones are packaged in a robust box and come with 3 different sized ear buds and a neat little case. They seemt be made exclusively for use with handheld devices, iphones, ipod etc as the wire is just too short for comfortable use with a PC. Still, i expect most people will buy these for ipods anyway. The sound quality is amazing, seriously awesome as is the noise isolation. I also love the thick wire, you just get the impression that this is a high quality robust product built for constant use. That said, the robust aspect means that the ear pieces are quite big and for someone with small ears like me it verges on the uncomfortable. Still, points for the fact that you don't have a longer wire on one side which you have to loop around your neck. I hate that!
The thing that make really these a must buy for me is probably the fact that you have volume control and the ability to pause on the wire itself. Finally i don't have to reach for my ipod in order to just turn the sound up or down (normally up!). Seriously great product, expensive maybe but if you have the money these are a great purchase.

These are expensive headphones and they are no doubt about it. The box they come in is bigger than an iPhone box! It's also incredibly difficult to open - it's almost vacuum sealed and I had to use a nail file to prise open the box.

Once it's finally open, you get the actual headphones, a storage/carry case and an instruction manual. The carry case is okay but not really much use as I'd tend to stuff the headphones in my pocket. You also get 4 ear buds (6 in total).

The quality of the headphones is apparent straight away, the cable is slightly thicker than normal and feels more substantial than cheaper headphones - they are also billed as tangle resistent and although they didn't seem to get tangled I'm sure they will in time.

Around chin level there is an inline control that doubles as a microphone for calls, it also has pause, volume up/down and FF/REW & scan functions. This works really well, although the FF/REW functions are not intuitive and I had to read the manual to work out how to do it.

The only physical thing I wasn't keen on was the size of the external earpiece - the bit between the cable and the earphone part. It looks a little large and looks like Uhura from the original Star Trek on first glance. I can overlook this though for one reason which I suspect the size is related to - the sound quality.

The experience with these headphones is unrivalled. I've had more than a few different headphones in my time, from 5 cheap and cheerful market stall jobbies to expensive 140 BOSE tins and none come close to these. I'm by no means an audio connoisseur, but I do have an eclectic musical taste and every track I tried was excellent with deep base sounds with clear high sounds and no distortion - even cranked up at full volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars SOUL In ear headphones 14 Aug 2012
By Moonlit TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
These are very good quality headphones. Everything about them is classy, from the stylish box in which they're packaged to the sleek good looks of the actual in-ear phones. I'm not a huge fan of in-ear headphones as I often find them very uncomfortable. These are by far the most comfortable in-ear phones I've tried, a far call from what's often supplied with equipment. I'm still aware of them in my ear but don't get the achy feel that comes with other models.

But it's the sound quality that's important with earphones and I've listened to a variety of music with these as I'm aware that some phones are better for some types of music. Often, earphones which are good for classical music for example, don't pick up the bass terribly well on rock tracks. These ones do though and I've listened to jazz, classical, opera, pop and rock and found them to be very satisfactory for all of them. They are expensive but I think they're worth it on the whole though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the high price put you off! 26 April 2012
By Gary Hilton VINE VOICE

Let me start by saying that choosing earphones is a very personal matter; we all prefer different sounds depending on our taste in music, and we all have different ear shapes and that also can affect our tastes.

During my several years of going to the gym I have tried many brands of in earphones and I can safely say that none can compare to these! Some other reviewers have said that there is no mid and/or highs, which is nonsense. The SL99 SOUL by Ludacris have the strongest base with clear mid and high range. I've owned beats by dre, O'Neill, skullcandy and of course apple's standard earphones and these blow them all away. Don't let the high price point put you off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ludacris in name, Ludicrous in pricetag 18 Mar 2012
By Jay VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Let me begin by saying the SOUL SL99 headphones ARE good. The quality is good, the noise-cancellation is good, the dynamic range is good, the volume level is good, even the blinking cable length is good. But that's the point. At this price I want a LOT better than "good". The quality and range is not nearly good enough for true audiophiles, and frankly anyone else should not be spending this much on a pair of headphones. I really don't see who these would appeal to. Anyone who wants high-quality sound but with the convenience of in-ear headphones can go to Bose for twice the quality and a lower price, those who want the "Bling" rapper-branded status symbol go to Beats by Dr Dre, and those who just want something to blast out some tunes on the bus go to...well....everything else that's cheaper.

In short, are the Soul SL99's better than my 10 Sony's? Yes. Are they 100 better? Not even close.
